Oh dear, is Scandal (1989) now considered 'Historical'? I must be getting old :) What about a few more segments in this, different periods under 'Historical London' like Wartime, Edwardian, Victorian, Elizabethan etc.? SteveCrook 10:39, Mar 13, 2005 (UTC)

There's some interesting stuff here but it badly needs tidying up. It looks like a case of too many cooks... I might have a go at this. If anyone has any suggestions, ideas or other films for inclusion please post them here so they can be mentioned. JW 11:22, 1 May 2005 (UTC)Reply

I'd say "Go for it Jeff". If you lose anything that someone 'really' wants in there I'm sure they'll soon shout, or put it back in. But it could do with some better structuring. SteveCrook 12:45, May 1, 2005 (UTC)

Looking good Jeff. A few more that sprung to mind while I was reading it ... Under "20th Century", most of The Man Who Loved Redheads (1955) is set in WWI London, a lot of The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp (1943) is set in WWII London. Under "Thrillers", Hitchcock's habit of using big landmarks for the ending of his films started with Blackmail (1929) which was set all in London & finished on the dome of the British Museum. Under "Thrillers" I'd also suggest Peeping Tom (1960). SteveCrook 23:04, May 3, 2005 (UTC)

Thanks. I've had some time on my hands today so I've managed to make a start on it! I meant to include Colonel Blimp, the trouble is it's endless, there are so many films you could include. But I'll include that bit about Blackmail, thanks. I don't live in London so I don't necessarily know the exact locations, so it might be useful if other people want to be more specific once I've done the basics. JW 00:04, 4 May 2005 (UTC)Reply

THE SPY WHO CAME IN FROM THE COLD BUNNY LAKE IS MISSING VICTIM WANTED FOR MURDER NIGHT AND THE CITY PASSPORT TO PIMLICO FIRES WERE STARTED Darling TO Sir with Love Sunday Bloody Sunday

Two of the BEST "giallo" used LONDON as setting:

"TUTTI I COLORI DEL BUIO" ("All The Colors of Darkness") 1972 Director: Sergio Martino Starring: Edwige Fenech, George Hilton, Ivan Rassimov

AND

"A LIZARD IN A WOMAN'S SKIN" (1971) Directed by Lucio Fulci Starring: Florinda Bolkan, Jean Sorel, Anita Strindberg, Stanley Baker and Leo Genn "Kuveiller's expressive compositions and roving camerawork, some really effective editing, another choice Morricone score -which combines disturbing themes with ravishing vocals by Edda Dell Orso- plus opportunistic use of London locations (particularly the then dis-used Alexandra Palace), make this a lizard definitely worth catching."

84 Charing Cross Road (1987) About a Boy (2002)

Londinium (2001) which shows to great effect Berkeley Square, Mayfair, Hyde Park, Primrose Hill Park, Waterloo Station,

Jokers, The (1967) Knack, The (1965) Sunday Bloody Sunday (1971) To Sir, with Love (1967) Touch of Class, A (1973) Sapphire

Wormwood Scrubs prison

edit

List of films featuring Wormwood Scrubs prison perhaps? 217.41.41.87

How many do you know? The IMDb only lists 3. Doctor in Clover (1966), The Italian Job (1969) and Mercy (2004/I). Is it worth a list for just 3? SteveCrook 17:09, 6 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

It's a lot more than three to my knowledge it's also shown in Billy Liar and The Spy Who Came in from the Cold. If there's no definitive list elsewhere, what better place than Wikipedia? Jooler 07:32, 7 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Indeed. If anyone does know any then they should be added. But not every scene at the prison gates is really filmed at the Scrubs, despite what they say on the page for Wormwood Scrubs prison. SteveCrook 15:05, 7 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

It's the entrance hat is frequently shown. Jooler 04:43, 5 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Fog

edit

It might be worth noting the way that London is frequently depicted in (mainly American) films and TV programmes as being constantly cloaked in thick, swirling fog, when in reality fog is a fairly rare occurrence in modern London.

And that out of every hotel window in London you can see Buckingham Palace (or Windsor Castle), Big Ben (OK, St. Stephen's clock tower), a routemaster bus and/or a red phone box :) -- SteveCrook 06:02, 21 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

A Tale of Two Cities

edit

Is the film A Tale of Two Cities (1935 and 1958) worth mentioning in this article?

The Batman(2022)

edit

"The Batman 2022" was filmed in London and Liverpool, the sighting of Liverpool is acknowledged on "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_films_and_television_shows_set_or_shot_in_Liverpool" so I think it should be here aswell 24.214.45.145 (talk) 06:49, 21 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
