Order
editI'd think ordering the names chronologically would be better than alphabetically. Grsz11 21:11, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
- That seems reasonable. I'll do that.—Chris! ct 21:45, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
Countries
editI note that various secretaries are said to have been born in Ireland, at a time when there was no such country. In addition, Franklin Lane was not born in Canada; he was born in the colony of Prince Edward Island, which did not become part of Canada until he was nine (and by then, living in California). Any thought on whether some modification, or at least asterisks are needed?--Wehwalt (talk) 03:27, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
- I made some changes to reflect the situation. If needed, I will add some notes to clarify. Thanks for pointing this out.—Chris! ct 02:04, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah, well, I've been improving the Lane article, which I've just nominated for FA. Thanks for your modification.--Wehwalt (talk) 02:07, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
Curious to know
editHas there ever been a U.S. cabinet secretary who was not a U.S. citizen at the time they took office? Is there anything prohibiting the appointment of a non-citizen? Andrew Levine (talk) 16:11, 27 September 2009 (UTC)
classified information
editHave any of these appointees ever been refused a security clearance or been ineligible to handle sensitive security and intelligence information b/c they were foreign-born? 74.69.121.132 (talk) 17:17, 15 May 2013 (UTC)

James Wilson as Secretary of Agriculture
editOn the list here, he is listed as Secretary of Agriculture under four presidents (McKinley to Wilson). However on his own Wikipedia page Wilson is omitted, nor is he listed as Secretary on Woodrow Wilson's presidency article? 101090ABC (talk) 22:48, 6 February 2021 (UTC)
- In the USDA article, James Wilson is described as the only Secretary of Agriculture to serve under three presidents, which would mean that he did not serve under President Woodrow Wilson (given that he served during the entire McKinley, T. Roosevelt and Taft presidencies). I think that the confusion stems from the fact that Woodrow Wilson's Secretary of Agriculture was not confirmed and sworn in until the third day of Woodrow Wilson's presidency (March 6, 1913), and the USDA website listed James Wilson as serving until the day before that (March 5, 1913), but other sources show James Wilson retired at the end of the Taft Administration (see, e.g., https://www.ans.iastate.edu/about/history/people/james-tama-jim-wilson), and it appears that the USDA website made a mistake on the date. I will fix James Wilson's entry in the article so that it does not erroneously reflect service under Woodrow Wilson. AuH2ORepublican (talk) 00:30, 7 February 2021 (UTC)
- Beat me to it. I was thinking of being bold, but thought I would first ask here. 101090ABC (talk) 11:28, 7 February 2021 (UTC)
