Talk:List of furniture types

Untitled

edit

this list spans too great a range of specificity. you've got entries for 'chair' and 'bergere', when a bergere is clearly a type of chair.Toyokuni3 (talk) 00:38, 10 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Chairs

edit

Many specific types of chairs are list at Category:Chairs. Should we list all of these in the article? I'm new to lists. -—Kvng 20:39, 1 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Just found List of chairs. I assume this means the answer to my previous question is no. -—Kvng 20:43, 1 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

References

edit

This article is tagged with {{unreferenced}}. I'm not sure what sort of references are desired for lists. Does this look useful? Books on furniture appear to be mostly organized by vintage, not function. -—Kvng 17:39, 2 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Should the article title be changed to be more specific?

edit

This article seems to deal with the type of furniture as might be used to sit or lie upon or usefor instance as a work surface which are only one kind of furniture and ignores the second definition. The basis or root of the word would be furniSH and furnature is defined by dictionary.com as follows:

noun 1. the movable articles, as tables, chairs, desks or cabinets, required for use or ornament in a house, office, or the like. 2. fittings, apparatus, or necessary accessories for something. 3. equipment for streets and other public areas, as lighting standards, signs, benches, or litter bins. 4. Also called bearer, dead metal. Printing. pieces of wood or metal, less than type high, set in and about pages of type to fill them out and hold the type in place in a chase.

this article only deals with case #1, wherein case number 3 includes lighting standards as furniture and case #2 Which I'd say would be inclusive of case #4 also includes such things as stocks, hand guards, buttstocks, grips, and magazines as outlined here: http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/product/84251 . this article could be more specific in it's title and focus and better reference other uses likely as articles on other contexts.
