Umm, U.S. bias much?
editi am sure that instead of all those red links, we could add some organisations from other nations to make this have a greater worldwide view. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Alphamone (talk • contribs) 11:15, 1 July 2007 (UTC)
- So why don't you add some from other countries?? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.76.136.54 (talk) 18:01, 27 July 2008 (UTC)
HEREDITARY and LINEAGE organizations
editThis page is full of ethnic organizations that are not hereditary or lineage organizations. The latter require proof of descent from a cohort of people, e.g., those who fought in a particular war or who arrived on the same boat, not just membership in a particular ethnic group. This list needs to be purged of organizations that don't belong. Prkimmel (talk) 18:19, 21 September 2015 (UTC)[no signature provided]
NEW QUESTIONS: 1. Why are certain other lineage organizations not listed? I note two as examples: The Order of Alba (descent from a monarch of Scotland, per their website <ref>www.orderofalba.org<ref>) and The Society of Indiana Pioneers (descent from someone who settled in Indiana on or before December 31, 1840, per their website <ref>www.indianapioneers.org<ref>). If nothing else, we could add a page just showing what they say on their websites and then list them on the "List of Hereditary and Lineage Organizations" page. 2. I note some listings starting with National Society and others that have that in their official names not showing as such in this "List of Hereditary and Lineage Organizations". I note two as examples: The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution <ref>www.dar.org<ref> and the National Society, Sons of the American Revolution <ref>www.sar.org<ref>, each being listed without their "National Society" prefix. See Since each is better known without the prefix, why not list all "National Society" organizations with that moniker appended rather than prefixing their names? Tim! The result of the move request was: no consensus. Some editors consider the proposed name to be more ambiguous than the current name. (non-admin closure) — Newslinger talk 07:25, 27 June 2019 (UTC)
List of hereditary and lineage organizations → Hereditary society – Internet seems to confirm this at least as an option. Per WP:CONSISTENCY with Learned society and Honor society. While transforming it more into an article on the topic, it could still retain a bit of a list? PPEMES (talk) 10:32, 2 June 2019 (UTC)--Relisting. - Oppose too confusing, though the present name is certainly poor. List of American societies based on heredity possibly? It's just a list, and we should keep that. Equally, all, with one Russian exception that doesn't seem to belong at all, are American it seems. I removed the Honourable Artillery Company which absolutely doesn't belong. Note that Hereditary society currently redirects to Family history society - what do you propose to about that? Many others seem not to belong here at all: Swedish Colonial Society, Veteran Corps of Artillery of the State of New York. Johnbod (talk) 21:56, 15 June 2019 (UTC)
- Leaning oppose, given the apparent ambiguity of the proposed target name. bd2412 T 03:59, 26 June 2019 (UTC)
