Added mention of latest sanctions list
editRE the US Sanctions List, I have added it below the expanding section so that we have at least something on it. Much of this page currently seems out of date, or laborious to navigate at the least, along with a possible need to split entities from people to have two separate pages - each having their own.148.252.146.215 (talk) 18:00, 23 February 2024 (UTC)
Why my comment here was deleted? And by whom?
editHi, I'm a student from Kiev. My attempt of dispute resolution with the help of corresponding Wiki pages' content led me to the "starting point", so I'll start figuring it out right from here. Months ago I've posted a comment asking corresponding natives about whether double standards of political worldview, irrational, chauvinistic and inhuman contempt for some political point of view (any, not necessary concerning Russia or Ukraine), resulting, in the described case, in referring to pro-russian supporters as "2nd grade" and "cattle whose viewpoint should not be considered seriously", are thus enormously widespread in U.S. and EU societies as they are in Ukrainian society? I don't believe it, but some Internet comments drive me into a confusion. It's on the border of life-and-death matters for me now, so I would appreciate someone's response.
Сertainly was offtopic, but by no means containing other inappropriate things. Must be mentioned: the comment was quite polite and discreet with respect to the Ukrainians. As far as I understood reading policies and guidelines, an offtopic is not a reason for total deletion of the comment. It may be tagged as offtopic, hidden or smth, but one shouldn't delete it. Am I missing something, have I misunderstood policies and rules? Can someone please help me in clarifying the situation? IP address was the same or very similar (may be differing in last digits). 213.111.71.129 (talk) 18:48, 13 August 2014 (UTC)
What do the "sanctions" consist of ?
editThis article is about sanctions, but still does not give any detail about the kind of "sanctions" people and companies from both sides have been targeted with. Shouldn't we at least mention it. In this case, it would be very appreciated if someone could provide this information. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.144.99.92 (talk) 15:17, 27 May 2014 (UTC)
Mexico and Chile
editAre there any sources on the statement that Chile and Mexico have introduced sanctions against Russia? I haven't found any in either Spanish or English. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 189.156.250.129 (talk) 19:56, 21 April 2014 (UTC)
The map is from the Russian Wikipedia. The list of sources that it references don't mention Chile or Mexico. Also there are no mentions of Chile or Mexico in the Russian/Ukrainian media. I think Chile and Mexico should be shaded grey due to the lack of evidence of sanctions on their part. — Preceding unsigned comment added by YantarCoast (talk • contribs) 17:40, 28 April 2014 (UTC)
- This is really the talk page for the English Wikipedia article. To raise questions regarding the image file, I would recommend starting a thread on the discussion page of commons:File:Sanctions 2014 Russia2.png; that way, the original image uploader is more likely to see it. Or, alternatively, you could leave a message on their talk page directly. It Is Me Here t / c 19:06, 28 April 2014 (UTC)

More eyes needed at the sanctions section 2014 pro-Russian unrest in Ukraine
editThere was a bit of edit warring there, as well as inaccurate information and general lack of content. The best way to ensure this section is better is to draw more eyes to it, so I'd like to invite editors editing this page there. Australian list
editWhen Australian sanction list will be added?--Yacatisma (talk) 00:12, 20 June 2014 (UTC)
- Why do not you add it now?--Ymblanter (talk) 11:02, 20 June 2014 (UTC)
UK column
editIS there an easy way to remove the UK column? The UK is already included as part of the EU. The source given in the table for the UK column is simply wrong in showing some differences, and the section REGIME: Ukraine (Sovereignty) in this list (from a UK government source) confirms all those on the EU sanctions list have been sanctioned in the UK (which you would expect, as it is part of the EU).--109.158.145.78 (talk) 01:54, 22 July 2014 (UTC)
- I went ahead and removed it.--109.158.145.78 (talk) 05:20, 23 July 2014 (UTC)
Austria
editWhy is there a separate listing for individuals sanctioned by Austria? Shouldn't Austria, as a member state of the EU, should be bound by the EU sanctions? Yakikaki (talk) 09:00, 26 July 2014 (UTC)
- You are entirely right: Part of the EU and the Austria column should be removed. I would have done it, but I don't understand the wikitable format. The so-called "Risk Advisory" source (original gone and only available through wayback machine) is entirely unreliable and their newer version isn't any better. It was the same source that claimed the UK had different sanctions than the EU (see UK column subsection above)! 62.107.220.212 (talk) 10:22, 3 August 2014 (UTC)
- @Ymblanter: The editor is correct. It is good that he removed that stuff. RGloucester — ☎ 18:42, 9 August 2014 (UTC)
- Do you also think their edit summary was approppriate? Especially one of the revert?--Ymblanter (talk) 18:51, 9 August 2014 (UTC)
- I'm all for civility, and feel free to chide the editor for that. However, the content of the edit itself is welcome, as it resolves an annoying problem. RGloucester — ☎ 19:01, 9 August 2014 (UTC)

Expand
editThis article needs to be expanded, with a prose section on the sanctions and their effects. If anyone is particularly knowledgeable about this, it would be nice if they'd get to writing. I'll start it soon if no one else is interest. RGloucester — ☎ 17:39, 31 July 2014 (UTC)
- I'd love to help out, but I'm going on vacation tomorrow morning. Here are some sources that perhaps could be useful, though: Japan, Us, Background EU, EU and more EU. There are of course tons in the media, as well, more or less biased... If you're going to make an overhaul, please also see my question about Austria above - I suppose they should be removed as a separate entity? They are, after all, members of the EU - or have I missed anything? Anyway, good luck! I think it needs expanding a lot to explain more in detail what it's all about and how it works, and I am happy someone will do it :) Best, Yakikaki (talk) 17:59, 31 July 2014 (UTC)
- @Nickst: There was no need to fork this article. There is no reason we could not have just expanded this one. RGloucester — ☎ 15:59, 1 August 2014 (UTC)
- It's not a fork. One article must say about sanctions in general. Second is a list of sactioned individual only. Compare interwikies (ua and ru). NickSt (talk) 16:05, 1 August 2014 (UTC)
- I don't care about the Russian or Ukrainian Wikipedia. You copied content from this article, and moved it there. That is the definition of a WP:Content fork. We only need one article to deal with sanctions, we don't need two. RGloucester — ☎ 16:08, 1 August 2014 (UTC)
- Sanctions and list of sactioned individuals is different things. NickSt (talk) 16:15, 1 August 2014 (UTC)
- There is no reason why we can't have both in the same article, rather than creating forks. They both deal with sanctions. The division is a petty and foolish one. Copying content to another article is never acceptable, Nickst. RGloucester — ☎ 16:17, 1 August 2014 (UTC)
- First, no reason to add actual/general info under the BIG list. It will be very difficult for readers to surf the article. Also WP:SIZE say: At 50 kB and above it may be beneficial to move some sections to other articles and replace them with summaries (now >50 kB). Also we have different inerwikies for both articles in uk and ru-wiki. To all: please add new info to International sanctions during the 2014 pro-Russian unrest in Ukraine, not to "list". - @Nickst: I'll accept the article on the condition that you fully translate the Ukrainian version into English for the new article, so that it isn't just a fork. RGloucester — ☎ 17:01, 1 August 2014 (UTC)
- "I'll accept... on the condition..."?! Ultimatum? LOL. You are not revisor, I am not your slave. I edit what I want. Read Wikipedia:Equality. NickSt (talk) 17:24, 1 August 2014 (UTC)
- If the article doesn't have original content, it is a fork, and I will nominate it for deletion. The burden is on you, since you decided to create this article as a fork. RGloucester — ☎ 17:31, 1 August 2014 (UTC)
- User:Yakikaki is entirely right: Austria should be removed from the wikitable as they are part of the EU. They don't have separate sanctions. I would have removed the Austria column myself, but I don't understand the wikitable format. The so-called "Risk Advisory" source (original gone and only available through wayback machine) is entirely unreliable and their newer version isn't any better. It was the same source that claimed the UK had different sanctions than the EU (see UK column subsection further up on this talk page)! In contrast, Japan and New Zealand have sanctioned individuals in this crisis, but both countries are missing from the wikitable. They're already correctly marked on the map in the article's lead and mentioned in the intro of "Against Russia, Crimea, and Ukraine". Finally, Liechtenstein and Norway are not the only non-EU country in Europe that follow the EU sanctions (see flag below EU in wikitable): Montenegro, Iceland, Albania, Moldova and Ukraine are doing the same ([1], [2], [3], etc). These five countries are already shown correctly on the map in the lead, but have been forgotten elsewhere 62.107.220.212 (talk) 10:22, 3 August 2014 (UTC)

Entities sanctioned
editIt seems a number of entities, mainly state-run companies, that are on at least the EU sanction list, have been removed from this list. Perhaps instead of removing them it would be more informative to either expand the title of the article to "List of individuals and entities sanctioned during the 2014 pro-Russian unrest in Ukraine" or add a subsection called "entities" or some other solution? It seems unnecessary to remove them. Yakikaki (talk) 21:35, 22 August 2014 (UTC)

Does this article violate WP:What Wikipedia is not? If so, which part? If not, does it violate any other rule? --George Ho (talk) 21:04, 14 November 2014 (UTC)
- Huh? The bot sent me. It seems fine to me. What kind of an RFC question is that, though? Best I can tell, you may be referring to the prohibition on indiscriminate collections of information, but this isn't near any of the examples and seems legitimate and potentially useful to me. EllenCT (talk) 00:31, 18 November 2014 (UTC)
- Well, I couldn't compare it to other nonexistent articles or other non-notable topics, like sanctions against individuals of Belarus in 2012. Therefore, that's all I come up with. If it doesn't violate such prohibition, then is the list itself notable per WP:N? Also, there is international sanctions during the 2014 pro-Russian unrest in Ukraine. --George Ho (talk) 01:02, 18 November 2014 (UTC)
- No. Sent here by bot. The question is broad, and provides no specific complaint. Examining the article, I see no violation of that policy. Coretheapple (talk) 19:56, 21 November 2014 (UTC)
- No. Nothing wrong with the article in general. It's an article to be extremely careful about as it describes a semi-war and living persons. One could argue that it's very extensive and if such sanctions had taken place ten years in the past, no one would have bothered making a whole list like this. But notability is sufficiently established by references. In short, i agree with EllenCT and Coretheapple.PizzaMan (♨♨) 17:57, 27 November 2014 (UTC)
- No Not as long as there are reliable sources to provide due weight to the contents. Jojalozzo 01:23, 4 December 2014 (UTC)
- No. Admittedly, the article would benefit from a bit more prose rather than just tables, but you could say that about many articles. bobrayner (talk) 01:57, 5 December 2014 (UTC)

The result of the move request was: moved to List of people and organizations sanctioned during the Russo-Ukrainian War. No one has objected to that title, and the consistency argument in favor of it is strong.. (closed by non-admin page mover) Extraordinary Writ (talk) 20:31, 12 March 2022 (UTC)
List of people sanctioned during the Russo-Ukrainian War → List of individuals and entities subject sanctioned during the Russo-Ukrainian War – Inaccurate title. Bank Rossiya, Gazprombank, Rosneft,... are entities subject, not individuals subject. El caballero de los Leones (talk) 04:52, 5 March 2022 (UTC)
- Support the rationale. Suggesting a better title List of people and organizations sanctioned during the Russo-Ukrainian War, along the same pattern as List of people and organizations sanctioned in relation to human rights violations in Belarus (see WP:CONSISTENT). —Michael Z. 15:45, 5 March 2022 (UTC)
- Support. also the table should be split into 2, one for people, one for entities. 11:20, 8 March 2022 (UTC) RScheiber (talk) 11:20, 8 March 2022 (UTC)
Split
editThis list article has become excessively long and should be split into separate list articles for people and organizations. Currently, the ones sanctioned by Canada, the United Kingdom, the United States, the European Union and Australia are not even kept in separate tables which makes this list even more difficult to navigate. I think this is the way forward but I'm open to alternative suggestions. Charles Essie (talk) 19:04, 6 May 2022 (UTC)
- @RScheiber: It was your suggestion above that gave me this idea. Do you have some thoughts? Charles Essie (talk) 16:11, 13 May 2022 (UTC)
- I support splitting the article into multiple smaller ones as well. Russia recently announced a new list of sanctioned individuals and some of them are not listed here. --Killuminator (talk) 12:17, 22 May 2022 (UTC)
- I am completely in favor of that. Charles Essie (talk) 15:55, 25 May 2022 (UTC)
- I compressed the tables by default so now the article is a little more legible. Does that help this discussion? Armduino (talk) 23:02, 3 July 2022 (UTC)
- Compressing the tables was a good start. We could still do the split as this article has a lot of content. Schwede66 14:06, 31 July 2022 (UTC)
- I support splitting the article into multiple smaller ones as well. Russia recently announced a new list of sanctioned individuals and some of them are not listed here. --Killuminator (talk) 12:17, 22 May 2022 (UTC)
