This is considered a mainstream client? The article about it is almost tagged for deletion, how can this be mainstream?

Splitting this page?

I believe it is better to split this page into several pages for each instant messaging network. This page then can contain links to all these pages or be removed. Thus:

• List of XMPP client software
• List of MSN compatible clients
• List of AIM compatible clients
• List of ICQ compatible clients
• List of Gadu-Gadu compatible clients
• List of IRC clients
• Amongst others

All these pages then can be organised like List of XMPP client software.

• I partially disagree, that would be a little redundant. Better to stick with the one page of messengers, one page of protocols and a comprehensive comparison table for each. The IM space is very dynamic right now. In fact, there's a MySpace IM client/service that just came out. Does MySpace deserve major-player status right off the bat? Should there be a page of MySpace-compatible clients? If so, what about smaller networks such as meca?

My bet is that there are more than 500 instant messaging clients that can be described... (the Jabber clients page alone lists already 60 clients...and I am sure that page is not complete). This will be too much for 1 page. NaturalBornKiller 14:34, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

And also List of multiprotocol instant messaging clients. With such a list we can prevent to list these clients multiple times and it will be easier to keep all pages up to date.NaturalBornKiller 14:47, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

Where is Google Talk on the list?

It does mention the now-defunct GTalkr, and Gmail Chat, but not the main Google Talk cilent. --J.L.W.S. The Special One 07:05, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

Consider renaming "Mainstream"

The difference between "mainstream" and "other" is, at this point, highly subjective. This invites questionable edits by stakeholders of non-mainstream messaging clients placing their client in the "mainstream" section. I would suggest making this a more objective classification, perhaps based on the number of active users. -- Fastolfe00 17:26, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

Google Talk is listed last

Why, in my opinion it should eb mainstream, especially by number of users, as everyone with a Gmail account also has Gtalk sidebar in their email...
