Orphaned references in List of inventions and discoveries of the Indus Valley Civilisation

edit

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of List of inventions and discoveries of the Indus Valley Civilisation's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Reference named "singh":

Reference named "bbc":

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT 04:35, 17 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Recent additions are dubious

edit

Some don't claim discovery/invention. Some of these seem copied from elsewhere. I can't check the sources for "protractor", but I also can't find any sources. Doug Weller talk 14:43, 20 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

I looked at the first one (weighted balance) and the cited source clearly gives earlier dates for Egypt so I've removed that. Should we go over them one by one or revert the whole lot and let the editor adding them make their case on the talk page?--regentspark (comment) 15:31, 20 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
The additions certainly need to be reviewed. For example, simply at a spot check, the new entry for Stamp seal says "stamps were first used in Indus valley civilization in 4th millennium BCE" citing this Met Museum page. However, (1) the source doesn't support the 4th millennium dating (it only gives the vague "ca. 2600–1900 B.C." range), and (2) there is no claim that the IVC were the first to use such seals. I would support RP's suggestion of BRD. Abecedare (talk) 17:49, 20 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
I have looked at some of the references briefly and it seems that additions are not entirely accurate. I think the user, at times (more often than not), has taken the liberty when interpreting some references. In addition, the quality of some of the references is WP:SPS. In general, I support the mass removal of newly added content post this version. Adamgerber80 (talk) 19:48, 20 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
Agreed—needles can't have been invented in 3000 BC. They we were well known in 25,000 BC. DenverCoder9 (talk) 21:42, 22 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
I've removed many outright false claims like, including dentistry (!) (well attributed pre-Bronze age)
In addition, there are many dubious claims, and most not properly sourced. Many claims state that there were technologies used by the IVC, but not that they invented them (instead of adopting them from earlier or neighboring civilizations). DenverCoder9 (talk) 21:55, 22 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

What technology was invented by the indus people to carry their goods from the farm to the market

English Bond

edit

There's a claim that IVC invented English bond. To claim invention, there needs to be evidence it wasn't imported from elsewhere. But I'm having a hard time finding evidence of English bond architecture in IVC. Can someone find a citation? DenverCoder9 (talk) 22:02, 22 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
