Revision

edit

Both lists of mammals in Russian and English should be revised as both have mistakes. Speaking of the English list, check 2 species of badger (maybe it's one), bison (was introduced but now extinct), replace wapiti with red deer, check onager (any reference that it actually lived in Kyrgyzstan?), add one more species of hedgehog, etc.

Both the Asian and Eurasian badger are listed on respective IUCN Red List assessments as occurring in the country, see refs in the list. -- BhagyaMani (talk) 06:57, 29 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
What exactly do you mean by 'etc.' ? -- BhagyaMani (talk) 06:57, 29 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
Re wapiti in the country : see ref in the list. Red deer is NOT listed as occurring in the country on the respective IUCN Red List assessment -- BhagyaMani (talk) 07:04, 29 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

I live in Kyrgyzstan and see squirrels every day. I also saw muskrat and porcupine (Hystrix). They are not included in the list. As well as racoon and jackal. I was wrong about badgers - it's true that there are 2 species. I was wrong about onager. A book (see link below) states that onager is an extinct species in Kyrgyzstan. The same book says that European bison was introduced but now extinct. The book states that there are both Cervus canadensis songaricus and Cervus elaphus (red deer). The book includes 2 species of hedgehogs (including H. hypomelas which is missing in the list now). Link to the book which is called Chordata.pdf: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1zsjIpBny8Aaega6qId8iWHyaN-LtVH0e?fbclid=IwAR0Or3TxmGIPHXsGQtsvYqGxtAkNyVNBCVfrSKQvRnunaiILCMyW00tRizs

The book is mainly in Russian, but also has Latin, English and Kyrgyz and was prepared by the Academy of Sciences of Kyrgyzstan in 2015.

Another book prepared in Kyrgyzstan (https://www.osce.org/files/f/documents/f/8/80510.pdf) states there are 84 species of mammals in Kyrgyzstan, but the list now says only 43. It seems that the list extracted from IUCN includes only endangered animals. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nemohuman (talkcontribs) 10:35, 31 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

This list was generated in May 2007. So it is well possible that IUCN did not have a complete list of ALL mammals of Kyrgyzstan. It's up to you now to add the missing ones. -- BhagyaMani (talk) 10:56, 31 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
I fully agree with Serols that adding a comment to the top of the main page is NOT the proper way to fix this problem of missing ones. You need to ADD them in the respective sections. -- BhagyaMani (talk) 13:27, 31 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
I second this. Add them yourself, using WP:RS of course. -- Ddum5347 (talk) 16:24, 1 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
