Talk:List of manifolds

Not quite sure what this page is really useful for as opposed to a category.

I see two options: a) improve the page: add 1 line description, possibly group by dimension b) ditch the page and just use the categories. --Salix alba (talk) 20:13, 28 January 2006 (UTC)

Lists versus categories is an old debate. They serve different functions. For example, a red link here for the Dold manifold is a prompt for some expert to write that article. You can't have that on a category. You can't indent or otherwise format a category. You can't annotate a category. You can't have redirects at the category level. And so on. Lists are often formed by moving lists within articles, that have become too long, to their own page. In that case it isn't useful to say that they are a 'pure' list. Yes, the other good content is on another page. In the end if a list can help navigation, it is a useful list. Charles Matthews 20:18, 28 January 2006 (UTC)

Isn't it intriguing that all, without exception, members of 'generic families of manifolds' are in fact homogeneous spaces, and even homogeneous Riemannian manifolds? Arcfrk 10:38, 21 April 2007 (UTC)

Is the hyperbolic plane a 2-manifold?

I noticed that this page has not a single reference to hyperbolic geometry is this an oversight or do the hyperbolic plane, space and hyperspace not belong in these lists? (if i knew for sure i would add them myself, but I am not sure ) WillemienH (talk) 15:59, 22 November 2014 (UTC)
