editThere is a hundred year gap in this list - What gives? Rmhermen 15:48 26 Jun 2003 (UTC)
That the info I found. I know that DC had some sort of appointed commission before home rule.Smith03
DC was governed by a three-member commission, appointed by the President, for some (all?) of the time. In fact, the first home-rule mayors had the title of "Mayor/Commissioner" to emphasize that the position was considered a successor to the commissioners. BRG
Adrian Fenty as next DC mayor
editSince the Democratic primary winner is almost 100% sure to be elected Mayor of DC, here's the next line of the home rule mayor boxes to insert in 2007:
Adrian Fenty | 2007 | present | Democrat |

Article name; also Alexandria
editThis isn't really a "List of mayors of Washington, DC", but rather the executives of the District plus those of the included municipalities. I have tried to clean up the intro to reflect this a little better. The title (today's COMMONNAME notwithstanding) is a bit confusing. Perhaps it can be retitled. "List of mayors of and within the District of Columbia"? With the current title as a redirect to the Home Rule period? Food for thought. Someone can surely do better. Possibly we break out "DC executives", City of Washington, Georgetown, with appropriate cross-links to connect them all up. Also, if the article is to include the City of Washington and Georgetown when they existed separately within the District, shouldn't it also include Alexandria for the period prior to 1846 when it was part of the District? Also food for thought, but that one seems clearer to me. "Yes." Comments welcome. JohnInDC (talk) 22:16, 11 January 2019 (UTC)
- JohnInDC, I hope we're headed in the same direction here, with good faith and good humor. You'll let me know if not. I just discovered that the list of Alexandria's mayors during its D.C. period is -- entirely missing from List of mayors of Alexandria, Virginia, without explanation. Very odd. Odd indeed. --Lockley (talk) 23:36, 11 January 2019 (UTC)
- Putting my money where my mouth is, Lockley - I keep saying that if these other articles are confusing, we should improve them! (Elsewhere I have said that our, um, disputed article could be / should be reconciled as "Municipal Governments in DC, 1801-1871". If we did that, we could revise this article very nicely in parallel.) JohnInDC (talk) 23:43, 11 January 2019 (UTC)
