Merge Proposal
editList of U-boat aces covers a similar topic and should be merged into this article. MisterBee1966 (talk) 14:56, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
- Support clearly one and the same Nick Dowling (talk) 09:54, 13 July 2008 (UTC)
- I'd agree, but I can't see anything at List of U-boat aces that would fit here. Are we talking about full deletion, and replacing it with a re-direct? Xyl 54 (talk) 16:55, 25 July 2008 (UTC)
- Comment My personal preference would be to delete List of U-boat aces and add a redirect. First, the list only denotes commanders of World War II, which I find misleading. Second, the first 10 commanders of List of successful U-boat commanders#World War II are identical to the 10 men listed on List of U-boat aces. The only additional value added is a synopsis of their achievements which can be found on the individual articles as well. We could add a column to the table to list major achievement like sinking an enemy battleship etc. MisterBee1966 (talk) 11:41, 5 August 2008 (UTC)
- The term ace is somewhat undefined in context of U boat commanders. In aerial warfare 5 victories make a pilot an ace. How is this defined in naval warfare? 5 ships sunk? 50.000 tons of shipping destroyed? MisterBee1966 (talk) 08:22, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
- The term "U-boat ace" is defined by sinking 100.000 tons (see "We captured a U-boat" by David V. Gallery, etc). 76.66.196.218 (talk) 15:02, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
- I see benefit in both articles, and would support a merge - certainly not a simple delete of any of the two! Ingolfson (talk) 10:50, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
- Comment the list was renamed from "Aces of the Deep" to "List of U-boat aces" in Jan 2008, which is why it doesn't make sense. IT was improperly renamed and then improperly updated so that the lead section became heavily biased and terribly wrong. 76.66.196.218 (talk) 15:00, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
- Support what "Nick Dowling" says: no need for separate articles and "Aces of the Deep" is a name dreamt up by someone! bigpad (talk) 10:15, 2 June 2009 (UTC)
I merged the two articles MisterBee1966 (talk) 11:53, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
Move proposal
editSince this page doesn't list every U-boat skipper who sank a ship, just the top-scorers, "successful" is a bit deceptive. I suggest moving to "most successful". TREKphiler any time you're ready, Uhura 16:53, 22 May 2015 (UTC)
- Support, the criteria for the listing should also be noted in the lead or respective section. MisterBee1966 (talk) 06:31, 24 May 2015 (UTC)
- Absent protest to the contrary, I'm going to move. TREKphiler any time you're ready, Uhura 15:19, 7 July 2015 (UTC)
Conducting the split
editHi, would Vami IV or Clarityfiend or other users who participated in the AfD be interested in carrying out the rename/split? Eddie891 Talk Work 14:23, 18 November 2021 (UTC)
- @Eddie891: Yes, but at the moment I'm occupied. –♠Vami_IV†♠ 21:06, 18 November 2021 (UTC)
- @Eddie891: I'll do it. It was my suggestion, after all. Clarityfiend (talk) 23:30, 18 November 2021 (UTC)
