Rob Herring

IIRC Rob Herring was born in South Africa but is British (I'm fairly sure he rode for the UK at the MXDN....) Pickle 19:03, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

I couldn't say for sure, but he has represented GB at the MXDN. Thus he might be dual nationality? (he was born out there IIRC). I'll change it to UK, but if anyone's got evidence otherwise its a very ambiguous one.

British SX Champs

While you can quiet clearly point at a British MX Championship, it is very hard to claim that someone has a British SX championship as no such championship *really* exists in a consistent way - there are often multiple competing championships in a winter SX season, etc. Pickle 19:03, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

It's not that its not true, but SX on the UK is not like SX in the States where it is a clear and notable achievement to have won. Some years there have been 3 competing series taking place. Without integrating some better informed MX fans of that era i would hesitate to try and list any claim to be British SX champion for a specific year. Pickle 13:09, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

World Championships by nationality

1) have you a source for the stats ? 2) the "problem" with these is that it dosen't really account for the switch from 3 classes (500, 250 & 125) to 2 classes (MX1 & MX2)

I just Googled them off the web :) I can change the classes. I think the MX1, MX2 & MX3 names were created by the FIM in an effort to make motocross friendlier to the casual viewer (read: TV audiences). Something which I think they failed miserably. There's no logic behind it. It should logically be MX1=125cc, MX2=250cc, MX3=Open class.Orsoni 03:48, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

a) fair cop ;)

b) of course its marketing by youthstream (who the FIM just say yes to), but it was at this point that the 500cc/Open class riders of quality (previously the premier championship) all migrated with the factories, teams and sponsors to the 250cc class (eg Smets and Everts to the detriment of Pichon and Coppins). MX3 is now a 3rd rate championship that is really low down on people's radars. thus IMHO a cut off should be made in any statistics.
