Duterte speaks Hiligaynon?
editDuterte sometimes speaks Hiligaynon in his speeches (Bacolod, 2017; Capiz, 2022; Iloilo, 2016). In one speech, he mentions being able to speak Ilonggo,
I’d like to say a few words. If I talk in Tagalog, I’m not good. If I talk in the Visayan dialect, I’m not good. I can also manage to somehow to do some Ilonggo pero hindi rin maganda. We born in a city where everybody and anybody in the Philippines was there during our younger days, while we were growing up. So we could talk in all dialects but we are not proficient.
Would this be okay to add in the article? What would the classification be, partial or fluent? howdy.carabao 🌱🐃🌱 (talk) 06:24, 14 May 2022 (UTC)
- This would be considered partially fluent. He admits himself he's still not good in Hiligaynon, so I would argue here that he is only partially fluent. I would reserve "fluent" only for languages learned later in life but where there is consensus that the person is fluent in that language, or there is evidence that the person can at least deliver speeches in that language even if they don't speak it natively. --Sky Harbor (talk) 19:42, 31 August 2022 (UTC)
