Updated List

edit

We are working on updating this page with the latest stats can data, as well as a new introduction and format. Here is the work so far: prose sandbox and table sandbox. Is there any opposition for replacing the current page with these pages? Mattximus (talk) 20:52, 22 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Mattximus, I'm up to my ears in work right now and don't have the time to explain why we are suggesting this new format. Can you explain for the benefit of others? Thanks in advance. Hwy43 (talk) 22:15, 22 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
Of course. We are endeavouring to create a standardized format for the list of municipalities pages for all provinces and territories in Canada. So far we have List of municipalities in Manitoba, List of municipalities in Saskatchewan, List of municipalities in Ontario, List of municipalities in Alberta and List of municipalities in the Northwest Territories completed. This current list needs some upgrades to meet that standard. This includes using the data from the latest census, maps, standardized introduction and subheadings, photos of the largest municipalities. This will also mean removing some columns such as the "codes". We believe this will make for a more accessible and useful list. Mattximus (talk) 23:21, 22 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
As far as the list goes, please ensure that English is used consistently, not just here and there. --Notwillywanka (talk) 19:23, 23 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
Can you elaborate? Is there a current or past issue with the current article, or with the sandbox, that you would like to avoid? Cheers, Hwy43 (talk) 06:28, 29 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
So you have not looked at the sandbox version that is proposed.--Notwillywanka (talk) 20:03, 8 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
You will have to be more specific so changes can be made. Can you point out examples of places were English is not used consistently? Thanks! Mattximus (talk) 20:14, 8 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
Notwillywanka, be explicit, not vague. We asked you to elaborate previously. Please explain. Hwy43 (talk) 21:56, 8 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
Explicitly: The type of municipality varies between English and French in the sandbox list Example; Ville is not an English word, Town is the Legal Quebec equivalent, whereas elsewhere we use the English words for Municipality, Parish, and Township, instead of the French words Municipalité, Municipalité de paroisse, and Municipalité de canton. I don't see why this is so difficult to see?--Notwillywanka (talk) 06:39, 9 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. This is a step forward. It appears you are referring to the usage of "Ville" in the "Status" column of the table while all other statuses in the same column have been translated to English. This has been fixed. Cheers, Hwy43 (talk) 06:56, 9 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

Current status of Baie-James

edit

Baie-James was dissolved of it's current municipal status a few years ago and remained Eeyou Istchee James Bay Territory. Does anyone know if this is still a municipality? I could not find any information on the web indicating what municipal subtype it was. Mattximus (talk) 21:33, 9 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

It has "municipality" status as of six months ago. See page 37 of this report. Hwy43 (talk) 03:56, 10 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
And assuming this is more current than the above report, it still has "municipality" status. Hwy43 (talk) 03:59, 10 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
In this report published last may, it's been announced the the status of the municipality as been retroactively changed from Municipality to Regional Government. "This modification should have appeared in the January 2014 bulletin. The new status “Regional Government” was assigned to this administrative entity. In order to better distinguish their particular skills. This modification is retroactive to the date of entry into force of the Act establishing the Government regional of Eeyou Istchee Baie-James, i.e. January 1, 2014" Roncanada (talk) 14:04, 27 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
Neat. Excellent find. Hwy43 (talk) 06:10, 28 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
