Fabiola?
Amon Tobin?
editPourquoi?? "from Quebec"? He lives there now but is Brazilian and formed his career in London. What's the stipulation to be FROM Quebec? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.214.19.91 (talk) 00:04, 28 May 2009 (UTC)
- Well there are many ways we can look at this. Born and breed in Quebec, Born in Quebec or Breed in Quebec. If we take the first and the second then the group's member composition is subject to debate. What percentage of the band has to be born in that province? If we pick the later, many artists such as Amon Tobin are eligible since he did most of his carrier the province. So how do we consider non-native artists? Do they have to be citizens, non-citizen would have excluded Corneille for many years. If we go with Percentage we would have to exclude the original line-up of the band "Les Colocs". This isn't a simple matter... Mighty.Yggdrasil (talk) 01:50, 9 February 2012 (UTC)
Men Without Hats
editWouldn't you say that Men Without Hats is not just new wave, but also pop? David W. Hogg 02:30, 2005 September 5 (UTC)
This list is so very incomplete...Dan Livingstone (talk) 23:07, 22 May 2009 (UTC)
- I guess this means you have a lot of work ahead of you buddy... ;-) The good news is there is a lot of people in Category:Musicians from Quebec not in the list. This means that they already have an article (however incomplete it may be) and can be added to the list by a simple copy & paste. The Québec Info Musique site has a pretty huge list of people, although I don't expect it includes a lot of self-produced artists. Syncing what is written in the French Wikipedia with what is written in the English Wikipedia is also one of the big tasks for whoever wishes to volunteer for it... Peut-être es-tu l'homme de la situation Dan? :-) -- Mathieugp (talk) 20:13, 23 May 2009 (UTC)
Only list bands with Wikipedia articles
editI have deleted all bands that didn't have their own Wikipedia articles and inserted hidden editor's messages saying not to add names unless they have Wikipedia articles. Wikipedia lists are meant to help people find articles relevant to the topic. Also, if a band or musician doesn't have its own Wikipedia article, there is no way to verify that the band or person actually exists, is in the right category, and is notable. If you think a particular band or musician is notable enough to be on this list, create a Wikipedia article about them before adding their name to this page. Spylab 13:49, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
- I strongly disagree with that approach, this portal helps promote bands from Quebec. The fact that they aren't big enough to have their own web page shouldn't be relevant. I've seen a few metal band deleted and they are actually well known in that scene nationally and in many countries internationally. I believe that this criteria is ridiculous and should have been the subject of a debate instead of unilateral deletion. Lets not be lazy, fact checking is very doable and easy even if the band doesn't have a wiki page. Mighty.Yggdrasil (talk) 01:40, 9 February 2012 (UTC)
- Promoting bands from Quebec is definitely not the purpose of Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a place to promote anything. Wikipedia is not a portal, a web directory or an indiscriminate list of everything that exists. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. Wikipedia only describes things that are notable, verifiable, in a neutral way that relies on reputable published sources without doing any original research. Which is clearly described in the official policies and guidelines. No need to discuss anything, the Wikipedia rules have been thoroughly discussed and written in great detail many years ago (and are still a subject of ongoing adjustments) exactly so that we don't have to argue about these common basic things over and over again for each article: the first thing should always be reading the official rules. The Standalone lists guideline also specifies common selection criteria for the "List of..." articles such as this one. "Every entry meets the notability criteria for its own non-redirect article in the English Wikipedia" is the most common criterion applied in these "List of..." articles. If the fact checking is very doable, and if the notability and verifiability criteria (significant coverage in reliable secondary sources, that is, articles in magazines, books, reputable websites etc.) are met, then the bands can certainly have their own article, and can therefore be included in this list. So for those of us who are not lazy, just go ahead and write the article.—J. M. (talk) 02:19, 9 February 2012 (UTC)
Simple Plan
editSimple plan is an all-québécois band, not only their lead singer. I'm changing it to simply "simple plan"
Children's?
editI'm all for listing all of Quebec's musicians and bands but kids cover bands seems really out of place. We might as well include Passe-partout etc. I think that section has to goMighty.Yggdrasil (talk) 04:52, 16 August 2010 (UTC)
disambiguation pages
editMany band links lead to disambiguation pages, i didn't get them all but If you see one, we should replace it with the appropriate band page instead of the disambiguation page. Mighty.Yggdrasil (talk) 05:48, 18 August 2010 (UTC)
- Wikilinks should not be to disambigs or redirects.--DThomsen8 (talk) 17:11, 20 July 2015 (UTC)
