Can somebody replace the current map with one which incorporates the boundary changes of recent years, not least to the Lake District, Yorks Dales and Cairngorms national parks. thanks Geopersona (talk) 07:11, 13 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
List of national parks of the United Kingdom is significantly more detailed than National parks of the United Kingdom, which is seemingly meant to be the main article, yet is very sparse in its prose. Since these two articles share a significant overlap of subject matter, I propose that the shorter article above be merged into this longer list–article so that we don't have two similarly titled pages that both unnecessarily discuss the same topic. — RAVENPVFF · talk · 17:31, 16 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
- The current situation is not helpful - I'd not object to a merger. cheers Geopersona (talk) 05:13, 17 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
- Though I'd retain the other title, as the page would be rather more than a mere list, it's an article about the topic itself. Geopersona (talk) 05:24, 17 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
- I agree with Geopersona, it makes much more sense to merge the other way . This isn't primarily a list article and it might be better set out as sections under headings rather than list format for the individual national parks. Velella Velella Talk 05:55, 17 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
- I agree with the merger, and also that it probably makes more sense to keep the 'National Parks of the UK' title, rather than the 'List of...' title, as the article wouldn't be primarily a list. Just to throw something else into the mix, seeing as virtually all National Parks are in England & Wales (13 out of 15), is there not also significant overlap with National parks of England and Wales?? - Wow! Are there any more, National Parks of the British Isles perhaps ? . I agree, put that into the merge pot too and concatenate all into National Parks of the United Kingdom. Velella Velella Talk 20:24, 6 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
- lol The only other one I can find is National parks of Scotland, and I can see there's probably a case for that page to remain as it's now a devolved matter, and the Scottish Parliament has passed its own NP legislation. Mmitchell10 (talk) 20:42, 6 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
- And in Wales too of course, national parks are devolved but I wouldn't want to see the whole thing fragmented even more! There's room enough in the existing article for descriptions of the different pieces of enabling legislation and administrative arrangements in place across the different nations. cheers Geopersona (talk) 05:39, 7 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
As there is consensus on merging the page List of national parks of the United Kingdom into the page National parks of the United Kingdom, I've carried this out. I've also tagged the page National parks of England and Wales as being up for merging, to alert that page's editors, and I've left this discussion open for the time being, to allow any editors of the E&W page to comment on the merger. Still outdated - can someone with the requisite skills bring it up to date with the extensions to the Lake District, Yorks Dales and Cairngorms NPs (any others?) and perhaps label them? I'd do it myself though unsure what original mapping to base it on so as to avoid copyright issues. Same map is now deployed in the other (non-list) page potentially to be merged (replacing one that was even more outdated). cheers Geopersona (talk) 05:23, 17 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
