Acknowledgements
editIs it ok to acknowledge and thank the Harvard Shorenstein Center for Media, Public Policy, and Politics since I originated this page as a result of my work as a Fellow there? Creating this page was John Wihbey's idea. The initial research was done by Ria Mukherji, a student at Harvard University. dweinberger 17:33, 6 May 2015 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dweinberger (talk • contribs)
- Thanks for your contribution and all those who made it possible! But acknowledgments aren't really put into article texts, as Wikipedia articles are supposed to be collective texts that belong to everybody. Even if it isn't your intention, adding personal acknowledgements can be perceived as taking "ownership" of an article -- see WP:OWN. And if everybody acknowledged their institutions/funders/inspirations in the text of articles, it would get crowded pretty quickly. The list of contributors is in the page history, and it links to your userpage (which I see right now just redirects to your user talk page). You should feel completely free to add that information in your userpage, as that is where many Wikipedians talk about what supports and inspires them. And this question will also be at the top of this talk page, so anybody who goes here will see that too. Staeiou (talk) 18:08, 6 May 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks for the helpful reply. For the record, I did mean whether it's ok to acknowledge/thank people in the Talk page, not the body of the article. dweinberger 18:54, 6 May 2015 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dweinberger (talk • contribs)
