Preventing link rot in this article

Commercial (Paid) Company Registers

edit

A section on Commercial Company Registers has been added at the very bottom of this page in order to differentiate these sources from official government data sources. Many governments do not offer company information in English while most private commercial registers do. Many government data sources have a pay wall or require a local agent who is a citizen to apply before accessing information, so it seems fair to also post commercial resource here as well.

The following national registration schemes are known to exist

edit
  • UK CRO Number
  • France Siren Number
  • Monte Carlo Siren Number
  • Europe Standard Vat. Number
  • Netherlands Chamber of Commerce Number
  • Germany Registration Number
  • Italy Chamber of Commerce Number
  • Spain Fiscal Code
  • Andorra Fiscal Code
  • Portugal Fiscal Code
  • Cusip Number
  • Australia Company Number
  • Singapore Registration File Number
  • Hong Kong Incorporation File Number
  • Cins Number
  • Portugal Chamber of Commerce Number
  • Mexico Iva
  • Israel Registration Number
  • Israel Vat. Number
  • Lechenstein Registration Number
  • Italy Fiscal Code
  • Denmark Registration Number
  • Austria Trade Registration Number
  • Zimbabwe Organization Registration Number
  • Zimbabwe Individual Registration Number

Request for assistance with China company registers

edit

Would someone who can read Chinese assist in adding links to other China provincial company registers to the list? This section needs some work. Thx. — Preceding unsigned comment added by SERutherford (talkcontribs) 21:43, 7 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Editors, there have been some spam / external links placed here and then added back after being removed. External links should not be in the body of the article and should be kept to a minimum in the EL section. More can be found at WP:EL / WP:LINKFARM. If you feel there should be an exception for links in the body of this article, head over to Wikipedia:External_links/Noticeboard. Though, you may note that a similar discussion has just taken place about links in a stand-alone article and consensus remains that articles should not contain external links in the body of the article.

The best way to get a external link on Wikipedia is the Official Website link at the bottom of an article *about that link*. Thanks, Stesmo (talk) 04:15, 8 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Add the icelandic-only link to Iceland's entry: https://www.rsk.is/fyrirtaekjaskra/leit

  Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format.  B E C K Y S A Y L E 06:59, 15 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
Willyinnorway, that edit should not be made. External links go at the bottom of the article, in the External Links section WP:EL. The subject of this article is "List of company registers", so an individual company register would not work. That link should instead be added to the EL section of the Wikipedia article about that specific Icelandic Company Register and not to this article. Stesmo (talk) 07:43, 15 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Where are the old, useful external links? Now this article is useless

edit

Dear Editors,

I regularly visited this Wiki page when I had to look up companies in different countries, and in different states in the US. I used the very useful external links found in the article. Now the useful external links are gone. What is the purpose of this article then? The title is "List of company registers". Of course you want to locate the company registers, you need their URL link. For example you search for "Hungary company register", then you find this article. And you find this:

Hungary

Ministry of Public Administration and Justice - Company Information and Electronic Company Registration Service (Hungarian)
Ministry of Public Administration and Justice - Company Information and Electronic Company Registration Service (Hungarian)
Hungarian National Bank - Market participants

Without any links! What is the purpose of this section?

This article was a very useful hub, now it is very useless. I would like to bring back the old external links! Charybdisz (talk) 09:30, 24 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Yes, deleting all external links was massive vandalism! I can't turn them back - they do not work =( ·Carn !? 09:54, 19 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

Moving ELs to Refs

edit

Per multiple discussions on Wikipedia:External_links/Noticeboard, moving these external links to refs is not acceptable. The external links weren't used as a source for the content and aren't Reliable Sources. If a user wishes to visit the website of one of these company registers, they can 1) use a search engine or 2) visit one of the included external links to lists of company registers at the bottom of the article. I also am eager to see the external links removed from this article, this is not the way to go. Thanks, Stesmo (talk) 05:07, 8 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

Will reply at Wikipedia:External links/Noticeboard#List of company registers rather than fracture the discussion. Bazj (talk) 13:50, 8 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

The consensus is to use in-line references for the listed registers instead of external links.

Should this article include external links or more preferably references for the listed registers? Gotitbro (talk) 17:29, 17 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

  • The article currently does not list any references for the listed registers to corroborate the claims. This can be fixed by including references to the listed register but in most cases these would likely be primary references which is to be expected of such govt. entities. The article for a long time dealt with this issue by having external links to the registers.

This is what this article looked like [1], before an editor removed all the external links in the article without consensus. This was subsequently listed on the External links noticeboard, but as can be seen no consensus was reached. From what I can see external links might not be ideal but introducing them as references should not be a problem (and as claimed above that the links "were not used as a source or were a reliable resource" these are official government websites from where the information was sourced/listed here). Survey

edit
  • Reference the primary sources. Wikipedia generally does not include direct external links in lists or article bodies. —DIYeditor (talk) 20:15, 17 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • Add in line references to the primary sources. Darx9url (talk) 08:17, 23 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • No External Links (randomly invited by a bot) WP:NOTDIRECTORY applies here. Jojalozzo (talk) 10:41, 27 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • Convert external links to refs - Summoned by bot. I struggled with this one a bit and had to sleep on it, but to be consistent with the policy on external links, the links should be turned into bare refs and then they'll show up on the bottom. That also kills two birds with one stone - the other being that the refimprove template can be removed. Deeper dive: the sources are not traditional reliable sources (i.e. journalism) and any government can put whatever they want on their pages, but this article is a list, and I think the primary sources have more credibility than compared to a business list, such as Meal kit#List of meal kit services, which requires third party sourcing. And while by all means the list would be more useful with the external links in-line, unless a exception to policy is sought and made, requiring much drawn-out discussion, this seems to be the best (albeit not fastest) solution. Business related info such as stock tickers and tech info like IEEE Communications Society#Publications seem to be given a pass, but I don't know if this is policy or if this is just WP:OTHERSTUFF that no one has gotten around to fixing. I want to know how to edit information in Wikipedia ..when I am going to edit its showing coding type page and i don't have any knowledge of coding so how can I do that is their anyone who can help me in this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Veronikakte (talkcontribs) 13:15, 2 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Veronikakte:, I believe you may have misunderstood the article's purpose. It is supposed to be a list of company registers, not a list of companies. If you find the source editor confusing (it is in some regards), you might be interested in trying Wikipedia:VisualEditor as alternative. If you have other specific questions about Wikipedia editing, please feel free to ask on my user talkpage or post at WP:Teahouse. Volunteers there will be glad to help. Article talk should usually focus on article-related issues. If you want to discuss improvements for this specific article, please feel free to start a thread here anytime. GermanJoe (talk) 17:36, 2 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
@GermanJoe:, Yes I thought the article needs a list of company with their website or company register detail page extremely sorry for the wrong edit I will correct it with the right information, actually, I am passionate about Wikipedia I really want to contribute some information in this like but really disappointed with my skills I do not understand how to edit properly its very bad for me.

Gambia iCommerce has been proven to be a Phantom Firm/Scam

edit

Gambia iCommerce registry has been proven by OCCRP and a statement released by the Gambian Government on Streber.org (mirror of Streber.st) to be a scam. It is also defunct as of 2024. If that is the case, may I remove the reference to iCommerce? 2A01:4B00:C003:5700:DC16:358D:53C6:B07D (talk) 11:34, 26 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
