Image removals and new split

Absent a proper discussion of the matter on this talk page, I think it's pretty obvious that the recent removals of images from this part of the list are based purely on a concern about the article's size, rather than on the actual pertinence of the images. The proof of this is that List of organisms named after famous people (born before 1900), which unlike this one, is not in the Longpages list, has not suffered any such removals. Removing the images is not a very good solution for this issue, because it only reduces the article by a measly 10-12% (not to mention that it removes, IMHO, actual informative value); this list is going to keep growing, and a mere 30 more entries or so will be enough for it to become the largest Wikipedia article again.

Therefore, I propose to split the article again: born 1900-1949 and born 1950-present. This will not be a perfect 50-50 split, the latter will be somewhat smaller, but since it's the part that has greater potential for future growth, I think it works well (besides, I have been looking into it and it seems this date does not split any music bands through the middle, which is neat). Therefore, unless there are any reasonable objections, I will start to prepare this split.
