@Inexpiable and @TheCheapTalker. Please can you stop reverting my edits without providing a substantive explanation of what it is about those edits that you do not like.
I think the merged numerical cells are messy and make the rows hard to parse.
I also think the column ordering is hard to parse, as we have the age at some event prior to the age at a previous event. It should be the other way around.
Reverting a good faith edit solely on the argument that 'It should be discussed first' without either starting that discussion yourself, or explaining why you think it should be discussed is very frustrating. JeffUK12:52, 20 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Inexpiable, @TheCheapTalker If you don't have any further objections, I'm planning on going through the articles making these changes, can you please let me know in the next couple of days if you intend to revert these changes again? I'm here to discuss if you want to! JeffUK14:46, 24 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
@JeffUK: I object to what you are planning to do because it is completely unnecessary and will confuse users coming to the pages going forward who have edited them over the years, as well as people who view the pages and are used to seeing it in this format. There is no right or wrong way of doing it so it's easiest and best to leave it as it is. There is nothing wrong with how it is now. Just move on to another topic of interest my friend. Inexpiable (talk) 18:26, 24 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Inexpiable I'm confused, I thought we'd agreed to the above changes already.
You said on your talk page [1] "The age at offense being first in the column I agree with plus the ages not being merged (although this is rare, it isn't needed)."; I would like implement these changes by moving the age at offense to be the first column, and unmerging any merged cells in the 'Age and Offense', 'Age at Execution' and 'Age Difference' columns. I think this is in line with what you agreed there.
You also said "I think difference is simpler than "Age difference" as it's obvious what we're referring to." This isn't my original suggestion, but I'm happy to implement that change too while I'm working through the articles.
As to your suggestion to leave it be, the articles which look like this tangled web List_of_people_executed_in_the_United_States_in_2023 are living rent-free in my brain right now, I really think it needs fixing, along with the rest for consistency. If you really believe there's 'no right or wrong' I'd ask you again to please just let me get on and change it, I do think it's wrong as it is now, and you don't have a preference. do we need to go into WP:Third or the like for something you don't care about either way?
@JeffUK: The pages have been styled like this for 10+ years. Just because you have some personal grudge about it doesn't mean they should suddenly all be changed. It will confuse users who are making changes in the future as well as casual viewers. You clearly have somehow stumbled upon these pages after not editing any of them for 10+ years and have taken it upon yourself to make a bunch of completely unnecessary changes. No other user has had an issue with this UNTIL NOW, and these pages get a lot of views. If it was such an issue don't you think it would have been flagged by now given the page's high view count? Two users have already told you to not do this without gaining further support. Once again, these pages date back to the year 2000. You got as far as 2022 before giving up..... Honestly, users that do this really grind my gears, they edit the most recent pages and don't bother looking at all the old pages and how they've been styled and do not care in the slightest about consistency. Well I DO CARE about consistency. And you have not filled with me with any confidence that you plan to make your changes all the way back to the year 2000 and in a swift manner. If this is going to be changed I expect it to be done in one day, not multiple days. My advise to you is to let it go and move onto something else. Inexpiable (talk) 06:15, 25 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
>If this is going to be changed I expect it to be done in one day, not multiple days
I'm happy to accept that challenge, modifying 24 articles is something I can do in one sitting.
>Two users have already told you to not do this without gaining further support.
With respect, I'm here now trying to come to a consensus, and I've asked if you can help me understand your specific concerns with the content of my edits (not my behaviour..) you've previously said you didn't have a problem with the edits, and now and you seem to be saying you're not bothered as long as I change it all in one day. So I'm still confused about what your actual objection is here. JeffUK09:33, 25 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
@JeffUK: I would say the age at execution is the more interesting and important number which is why it should be first in line. The other two are really just an indication to see how much times has passed since the crime they were convicted of occurred. Because the age at execution is the most important it should be first in line. Inexpiable (talk) 17:40, 25 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
@JeffUK Prior to the days you've made that changes, I reverted it is reasonable, Since you have not started an discussion on this Page
First of all, You've said that "It should be discussed is very frustrating", The point is that this page is meant for everyone, not for yourself, as will be causing confusion like I've said, You don't have the majority's opinion yet and what makes you think you're entitled?
Secondly, I rarely have time to use Wikipedia, Whenever I saw that it needed to be edited, I will do that exactly, I've saw your conversation/discussion with @Inexpiable and Sincerely apologize for not noticing, Point remains, It still causes Confusion, What for you swapped with "Age at Crime" and "Age at execution"? That still cause confusion for users coming to the pages, Including me
Also, If you think that I'm the "Free" timer in Wikipedia, You were wrong as well, If the disagreements goes on, I'd highly suggest you'd find some OGs that have contributed the most changes in these pages. Hopefully, They'd civil enough to help discuss and help you in this matter. TheCheapTalker (talk) 06:18, 25 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
