Talk:List of people from Brisbane

Removing non notable people on list.

edit

About 10 percent of the names on this list do not have articles about them on Wikipedia. My edits to remove them were reversed. There is no justification for keeping red links, and this is the normal thing with other similar articles. Either someone starts the article on them or provides independent references, or they should be all removed. I'll leave it a week or so then start trimming. We can't clog up the article with non notable people.--Dmol (talk) 20:58, 30 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

How do you know, personally, who is notable and who is not notable on the listing? Unless you are an expert in all of the categories, or fields, regarding the people with 'red links', how can you assume that any of the people with 'red links' are not notable? Commenting that they do not have articles about them on Wikipedia is no guide as to a person's notability, or otherwise. It is just a matter of whether, or not, Wikipedia editors have had time, as yet, to write articles about the people concerned. Removing 'red links', just because no Wikipedia articles exist about them (as yet), appears to me to be a matter of personal opinion or bias, only. Anyway, it can hardly be said that the article is 'clogged' up with the few 'red links' it has. Figaro (talk) 12:28, 31 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
It's not a personal opinion, it's a matter of fact. Notable people get articles, THEN get added to lists. Prove notability or they'll have to go. Most lists are like this.--Dmol (talk) 13:07, 31 December 2010 (UTC)Reply
I have added a dispute tag to the list and will start checking each of them as a separate case.--Dmol (talk) 21:59, 2 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
How do you know, personally, that the people you commented on are 'non notable'? As I mentioned before, to assume that they are non notable, without knowing, is a POV on your part. Anyway, I have already begun checking on some of the people concerned and they were/are, in fact, *VERY* notable people. Finally, it is not mandatory to have articles about people before putting them on the listing. Figaro (talk) 12:25, 3 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
I am returning Jill Shearer to the list because she is a playwright. I will try to write an article about her - and also articles about some of the other people on the list with 'red links'. I have already begun writing articles about some of the people with 'red links' on the list, but the project takes time. Figaro (talk) 13:19, 3 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Please see Wikipedia:Write the article first which states - "Editors are encouraged to write the article on a given subject BEFORE adding a link to the article to list pages, disambiguation pages, or templates."--Dmol (talk) 11:57, 12 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Did you personally try to find out if the names you deleted are - or are not - notable before you deleted them??????
I am asking this question because the red links have caused me to personally check up on the people with red links whom I had not heard of previously, and to begin writing articles about some of them whom I have found to be actually very notable people. Not everyone knows who or who is not notable — research is the key here. I have been delayed with writing about some of the people I intend to because I am on a dial-up service and only have very limited time on the internet and, therefore, have not had enough time to write articles about everyone I intend to. Your removal of the red link names is detrimental in that other Wikipedia editors may now be prevented from knowing about these people and, as a result of your removal of the names, be unable to check up on them and to write articles about them. I noticed, on checking the page you referred to, that it is only the opinion of some editors for the articles to be written first — it is also noted on the page that it is not Wikipedia policy. As I commented before, it is not mandatory to have the articles written before names are added to the list. Figaro (talk) 09:23, 13 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Kate Miller-Heidke

edit

So opera singer Kate Miller-Heidke is both born in Brisbane and not born in Brisbane?
At least I think that the section "Brisbane is also the home of the following people" should be for non-native people only. If not, then everybody from "Notable Brisbane-born people" could be there too... 85.76.151.49 (talk) 22:19, 26 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Change title: List of NOTABLE people from Brisbane

edit

The current title sounds a bit silly. That's all. Small and easy edit. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ECCole 00 (talkcontribs) 05:46, 11 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
