I think we need to make a decision on a page like this. The content is duplicating directly the auto-generated Category page. Whilst this layout is easier on the eye do we want a seperate duplicate page for every town in the world? This page will not auto update as will the Category page.
I think it is worth thinking about and that is the purpose of the tag. By the rules it is a duplication in all but format. Drjamesphillips (talk) 00:57, 25 April 2015 (UTC)
Contested PROD
editFirst of all, I don't appreciate receiving a robo-message which strongly implies that I did something wrong because I'm a new user (I've had this account for almost nine years). I started to wonder whether there was any human action involved in tagging this page for speedy or in the message I received. I'm only now seeing human action because I had to check something on my watchlist in another tab. I certainly don't send robo-messages to active users; rather, I attempt to talk to them like human beings. Some people on here act as though they have a problem with that.
This is precisely the sort of capricious bullshit which causes people to lose their desire to continue to contribute to this project. In crafting your rationale, you raised suspicions on account of what you did and did not mention, as if you were attempting to weight the rationale to represent a POV while making it appear that you were actually being neutral about this. There are plenty of lists on Wikipedia which serve no purpose other than to provide gratuitous links to other Wikipedia content. If you had actually read this list, you would have noticed that this isn't the case, that each entry is at least somewhat fleshed out with prose.
What you omitted from your rationale is the important part, however. If you go look, you'll see that at the time I spun off the list from the main article, that one single section (out of a total of fifteen second-level sections) was taking up approximately thirteen percent of the overall article. It's pretty simple math, and certainly adds up to undue weight in the main article no matter how you slice it. That case of undue weight was only bound to get worse, as that one section is where most of the recent editing activity on the article was occurring. Circumstances such as that are the reasons why content gets spun off from main articles into sub-articles. Notice that included category Category:Lists of people by city in the United States currently has 241 entries, all of which are sub-articles of main articles on communities just like this list. In ignoring that, you're really contending that other cities are worthy of such sub-articles, but Canton isn't, yet you offer nothing to back that up, instead diverging into some sort of baseless strawman argument.
Just a minor side issue while I'm here: as this list continued to grow in the main article, I couldn't help but notice a lack of mention of Frank T. Bow. Was this an honest oversight, or do I detect the sort of POV I've seen in numerous other lists of this sort? Namely, that every C-list and D-list entertainment and sporting celebrity are "notable people", but someone such as Bow is merely a "local politician" and therefore we don't need to be bothered with acknowledging such nonsense.
I expect to be busy with paying work in the real world for the next X number of days. However, if you come back with a rationale that I can't drive the Space Shuttle through, I may be willing to revisit my attitude/stance. RadioKAOS / Talk to me, Billy / Transmissions 01:55, 25 April 2015 (UTC)
- As I referenced the appearance of something suspicious, here's something else. The user who nominated this for deletion established his account only today, yet right away is jumping into nominating pages for deletion through WP:NPP. Thus far, this has been the only activity from this account. So a doctoral degree must do wonders when it comes to eliminating the learning curve, eh? With respect is there any need for such a tirade? Your response ( after deleting the PROD yourself is borderline bullying and harassment and falls fould of the guidelines in respect to treating others with respect. I have referred this to admin and will not enter into further converstion with you on this subject. Drjamesphillips (talk) 23:07, 25 April 2015 (UTC)
