Eclectic list
editThis is a rather undiscriminating list of people, without any evident selection criteria. Editors come along from time to time and add another name. We need to see what principles are followed by similar lists and adopt them. —SMALLJIM 10:14, 18 January 2016 (UTC)
Answering my own comment - List of people from Yorkshire is a carefully categorised list of "Some of the most notable figures from the county", based on published sources. There are several books devoted to biographies of notable Devonians, from John Prince's Worthies of Devon (1701) and T. L. Pridham's Devonshire Celebrities (1869), via Baring-Gould's Devonshire Characters and Strange Events of the early 20th century to the more recent Devonshire's Own by John Van der Kiste and Todd Gray's Remarkable Women of Devon. So we could create a list based on this criterion, though it would inevitably be biased toward the historical.
Another type of listing is that adopted by List of people from London, List of people from Greater Manchester etc, where the whole thing is split into sub-areas.
On the other hand the list of people from Somerset was deleted back in 2007 because no-one had populated it and no-one has tried to re-create it since, despite Somerset having an active editing community here. —SMALLJIM 11:17, 18 January 2016 (UTC)
