editShouldn't the Gallagher brothers in Oasis be included in this list under mmusic???
Title inaccurate
editHmm, "native" is inaccurate if the list includes people who lived or worked in Manchester for a few years, rather than originated there. — Matt Crypto 08:17, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
- Propose move to List of Mancunians, therefore. — Matt Crypto 18:16, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
- I believe I started the list with that name, but it was changed due to a wikipedia policy. Billlion 20:02, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
- Yes that is more or less right. It was List of famous Mancunians.Billlion 20:03, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
- Which policy? Any name is OK as long as it's accurate, and this one is not (as it includes residents as well as natives). — Matt Crypto 22:51, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
- I am not sure, now you mention it! I would plump for Notable Mancunians or List of same, depending on which seemed to fit in best with other such lists.Billlion 18:51, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
- Liverpudlians were moved to People from Liverpool [1] apparently due to some policy! Billlion 18:54, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
- I don't see any logic for someone like Niels Bohr, who is Dane, to be included in an article whose lead says it's about Mancunians. I'm sure he was never called a Mancunian in his life. Either the people who weren't born in Manchester need to be taken out or the lead needs to be changed to say that it includes residents. Richerman (talk) 11:26, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

So what is the criterion for inclusion?
editAre we saying born in Manchester, in which case what does that mean? It could be anything from the rather small city of Manchester to Greater Manchester, and then do we mean the current Greater Manchester or some definition that varies with time? Do we accept evidence that they grew up in Manchester as the presumption that they were born here? For historical figures the parish where they were christened is recorded rather than their birth for example. These problems must have been addressed in other similar articles Billlion (talk) 09:06, 31 December 2011 (UTC)
