Talk:List of people from Missouri

Criteria for list inclusion

edit

What is the rule for pages like this--list people born in the place, or people bred in the place, or both? Eg, Charlie Parker was born & bred in Kansas City, but in both states I think. Kyk 04:57, 3 Jan 2004 (UTC)

I've been adding people born there, simply because that's what I could scoop up easily; I'd think people born elsewhere but brought up in the state would be just fine too. Salsa Shark 05:50, 3 Jan 2004 (UTC)
Nice additions; a lot of these I didn't know were born in MO. Kyk 05:52, 3 Jan 2004 (UTC)

I was looking at this list of famous Missourians... I don't see Jack Wagner (born in Washington, MO) in either the film or music category... and he does both! Was just wondering if it was an oversight or if there was something else behind it.

Can someone please add Dorial Green-beckham, wide receiver for the Tennessee titans from st. Louis Kevinal91 (talk) 08:27, 7 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Athletics needing sub-categories?

edit

The Athletics section has become quite lengthy. What say you folks? Should it be broken down into various sub-categories like "baseball", "football", etc. ALSO, while I think of it...should the pro wrestlers be more aptly placed under Entertainment, since WWE and others actually bill themselves as being "sports entertainment" these days. I'll wait for some feedback before taking action. Sector001 (talk) 02:19, 3 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Proposed criteria for inclusion (unsigned and undated; pre-July 2015)

edit

I've done quite a bit of work on the list lately, alphabetizing, creating subcats for athletes, etc. Here's what I'd propose as criteria for inclusion:

  • Person may have been born elsewhere but spent a considerable amount of time in Missouri as a child or young adult (i.e. rapper Eminem, actor Steve McQueen) HOWEVER just attending college in Missouri then leaving again should not.
  • Most college or pro athletes should not be included if they only played for a team and had no other connection, or chose to make Missouri their home after they retired (i.e. Dan Dierdorf would be included because stayed in St. Louis as a broadcaster and business owner after his playing days. Someone like baseball's David Eckstein would not.)
  • Musician or band must be signed at some point to a major record lable and preferrably have had music chart success. Sorry "garage bands" lol)

When adding anyone to the list PLEASE be kind and put them in the correct alphabetical place. Waddaya say folks, these guidelines look good to all?

Added 2 Under Country/Bluegrass

edit

I added Tyler Farr and Tate Stevens under the country/bluegrass section. Both singers were raised in Cass County, Missouri. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.31.223.174 (talk) 21:43, 9 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
