Talk:List of people from New Orleans

Request for Comment

A page similar to this one. List of people from San Francisco, is currently under review as an article for deletion, for reasons which would apply to this article as well. I am conducting an RfC on the talk page of the above-mentioned list to determine whether the concensus agrees on keeping such lists or not. Any and all comments are more than welcome. Please link to the relevent RfC when it has been created so I can comment, thanks. -- Infrogmation 21:05, 7 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Sorry about that. The discussion specifically regarding this topic is at Wikipedia:Current surveys. It is right now the first one under the "Articles" heading. Badbilltucker 21:27, 7 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

I am requesting that the name of this article be restored to List of people from New Orleans. This is the naming convention used by all lists of people from a specific city or state. VerruckteDan 18:32, 11 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Subjects missing articles

edit

An editor recently removed all the links to subjects currently without articles. I objected saying I knew some of them were subjects we need articles on, so they reverted. However I do think we might need to look through them. I'm pretty ignorant about the rap scene, can someone confirm that these are rappers of some note? I did remove the listing "William F. Faulkner, writer and screenwriter" -- might that have been a reference to William Faulkner? Put it back if he's not. I can vouch the following legitimate subjects for articles:

Cuisine: Alcitore, Le Ruth. Entertainment: Bagneris. Music: Baquet brothers, Dede, Lacombe. In Math & Science, I've heard of Lascaux but only as a passing mention. -- Infrogmation 14:45, 17 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Pitt and Jolie

edit

I think the idea that they are from New Orleans is thin at best. Owning a house in New Orleans does not make someone from New Orleans, as plenty of celebrities own houses in cities without being from that city. They are not even currently living in their New Orleans residence, they are living in France. I think they should not be included on the list. VerruckteDan (talk) 22:40, 27 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

The article starts with "This is a list of individuals who are or were natives of, or notable as residents of, or in association with the city of New Orleans, Louisiana, USA." I agree that they are not natives, but I would say that they are notable residents of and are associated with the city. They currently own a home in the city, among many other places, and as can be expected, they spend time among a few different ones. When asked about how Pitt feels about NOLA, he was quoted as saying:

"I absolutely love it there. We moved our family there. We've got a place there and we're intermittently going back and forth."

In another interview he stated:

"We're a nomadic family but have a home base here."

In addition to their residence, they have also been very active in raising awareness for the city and its various charitable organizations such as Habitat for Humanity's Musician's Village, even spearheading his own (Make it Right Foundation).
Pitt even went as far as to get a tattoo of the levees on his back. I think that these adequately meet both the criteria, notable residents of, and associated with, the city, though to qualify for a place on the list only one would be needed. (D.c.camero (talk) 01:29, 28 July 2008 (UTC))Reply
Well, I still don't totally agree, but I won't fight their inclusion. VerruckteDan (talk) 03:30, 28 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Eugene Grace

edit

There seems to be a problem with the Eugene Grace link. It doesn't say what this article says it does. Do any of you know the correct link? Nolabob (talk) 02:13, 11 April 2012 (UTC) I deleted Eugene Grace from this list. I see no apparent relationship of Grace to the City of New Orleans. Nolabob (talk) 00:32, 23 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Caroline Hill

edit

I don't see the relationship between Caroline Hill and the City of New Orleans. Unless someone can help out on that, I intend to delete Hill from the list. Nolabob (talk) 00:28, 23 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Caroline Hill is now deleted from this list, since there is no apparent relationship between Hill and the City of New Orleans. Nolabob (talk) 01:04, 27 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

Bonnie and Clyde

edit

Should Clyde Barrow and Bonnie Parker really be on this list? Bonnie and Clyde were not from New Orleans and any connection to the city is not mentioned in their article. Dunarc (talk) 20:07, 7 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Removal of certain notable New Orleans residents

edit

There have been recent instances in which certain notable New Orleans residents have been removed from this list, examples including, but not limited to, Leon C. Weiss and Albert C. Ledner. These individuals lived most of their lives in New Orleans with most of their professional works in New Orleans. The top of the list states "This is a list of notable individuals who are or were natives, or notable as residents of, or in association with the city of New Orleans, Louisiana, United States." I believe that several notable New Orleans residents have been inappropriately removed from the list. But I'm open to a different point of view. Nolabob (talk) 12:34, 9 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
