MPs
editI have removed MPs who's only connection to Reading is representing it as they're already listed here: Reading (UK Parliament constituency).Farrtj (talk) 16:49, 23 January 2012 (UTC)
Charlie Brooker and others who were born in Reading Hospital
editCan we stop adding people who's only connection to the town is having been born in the hospital. People like Charlie Brooker, who's parents and grandparents came from Brightwell-cum-Sotwell, who was educated there and lived there has no real connection to Reading other than it had the closest maternity ward.Farrtj (talk) 11:26, 22 January 2012 (UTC)
Title
editThe title needs to be changed to reflect the makeup of the list. It should be called "List of people with a connection to Reading" as many of those listed have a tenuous connection with the town at best.Farrtj (talk) 11:16, 22 January 2012 (UTC)
Kate Middleton
editAs others have said, this is only for people connected to the town. Simply because Kate Middleton happened to be born in Reading hospital does not make her a noteworthy Readinger. She has never lived or been educated in Reading, so I have removed her from the list. Farrtj (talk) 16:38, 30 April 2011 (UTC)
I removed her again yesterday 24th July as she had crept back on also Douglas Bader whose only link seems to have been being treated at the Royal Berks at one time...doesnt make him a person of Reading in my book and Solly Joel who lived in Earley not in Reading--Quadrant2 (talk) 19:54, 25 July 2011 (UTC)
Someone re-added the Middletons so I've deleted them again as per my original decision.Farrtj (talk) 11:16, 22 January 2012 (UTC)
Cleanup
editThis requires tidying. Many of these people, although possibly associated with Reading through their work, do/did not actually live there. Others live/lived in the local area, but not in Reading itself. Verica Atrebatum 21:58, 2 December 2007 (UTC)
- I have been through the list and removed any person whose article does not demonstrate a clear connection to Reading. A couple of things to note:
- The article is about the town, not the borough. I've used the same definition here, so places like Woodley and Earley do count.
- I've taken a few things (being an MP for the town; managing a town sports team) as being sufficient connection, even if it isn't strictly residence.
- I've removed the cleanup tag. -- Starbois (talk) 14:49, 10 November 2009 (UTC)
Refimprove
editI've removed the refimprove tag from this article. The article is a list of notable people who by their very nature will have articles of their own; if they don't, they don't belong in the list. I see no merit in cluttering the list with citations that should, if the authors of those articles are doing their job properly, will probably just duplicate a citatation in that article.
There is a case where the target article, for whatever reason, does not mention the Reading connection and it is not possible to improve it to do so. In this case then the list will need its own citation, but an article level tag does not help identify these. I would suggest adding fact tags to any that match this; I don't think there are any at present.
There is also a case where the target article mentions the Reading connection, but does not cite a reference for it. In this case the fact tag, or refimprove tag, surely belongs in the target article itself. -- Starbois (talk) 14:57, 10 November 2009 (UTC)
