editMeriwether, MT ... possibly an alternative name or neighborhood of Glacier or West Glacier, MT???
- presumably overlooked, on or just off hwy US-2 and on BNSF Railroad line (Yard visible from orbit, forsooth!).
- Google Earth & Maps finds it no problem. Has at least a railroad freight yard leading west to Whitefish from Cut Bank, MT if not a presence as a bed room community.
- Please research to your standards and add in the appropriate list article. Thanks // FrankB 00:42, 10 February 2010 (UTC)
Meriwether is Census Class Code U6. It consists solely of some BNSF grain elevators and is a BNSF loading point. I leave it to others to determine whether or not this qualifies it for inclusion in this list. It is definitely not an alternative to West Glacier! It's east of the Continental Divide near Cut Bank. There is no place called "Glacier," although that term is used as a local reference to Glacier National Park. What you are seeing on Google Earth is the county name. Browning, Meriwether, Cut Bank are all in Glacier county. I'm from Hungry Horse, MT, and have driven past the elevators at Meriwether numerous times. This is what the place looks like, second photo down.
As an aside, the Montana author James Crumley uses the name 'Meriwether' in his novels, but it is used as pseudonym for Missoula. Glacierman (talk)
