Talk:List of political parties in the State of Palestine

Naming issue

edit

The Palestinian National Authority is not a place, so this name is awkwardly worded. This list also seems to be comprised of groups who partake in the election for the PNA, rather than a comprehensive list of political parties in the occupied Palestinian territories. Should we keep its geogrphical and political scope limited in this way and merely change its name to List of political parties participating in PNA elections? Or should we expand its scope and name it List of Palestinian political parties so that it can cover all Palestinian political parties, including those who do not partake in PNA elections and those who are not represented in the West Bank and Gaza Strip? Note too, there is a another listing of parties at PLO#Membership. List of political parties of Palestine redirects here automatically. Tiamuttalk 21:05, 25 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
A logical move would be List of Palestinian political parties, in line with the Category:Palestinian political parties. The whole drive to substitute any mention of Palestine with 'PNA' is very awkward, and in some cases leading to outright falsifications. --Soman (talk) 21:34, 25 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I've noticed the same thing. I've been working on Outline of Palestine and have come across some very strange things. (eg. President of Palestine used to redirect to President of the Palestinian National Authority, even though its the Chairman of the Palestine Liberation Organization that is the President of Palestine. Foreign relations of the Palestinian Authority even though its the PLO who represents Palestinians internationally. The PA only has foreign relations insofar as its negotiating peace with Israel, meeting with foreign diplomats for those purposes solely. )Anyway, I agree with your comment. Let's see what others have to say. Tiamuttalk 21:42, 25 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Syncretic? Islamic socialism?

edit

Currently the slightly odd column that tries to fit these parties in a Western Left Right calls Hamas "Syncretic" but then the footnote "Largely due to its Islamist religious beliefs and left-leaning economics" just describes Islamic socialism. But I don't know if that would be appropriate because I've never actually heard them described as such. Trying to describe middle Eastern political parties on a left / right scale in that column seems like a bit of a fool's errand to me? Other categories would like be more useful, like for or anti "two state solution" and Islamic vs Secular. Irtapil (talk) 19:44, 21 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

We should add at least something to Hamas's "political position" box

edit

Even if Hamas does not have a defined political position, that should still be stated in the box. If we just leave the box blank, it will just leave readers confused. I propose we put "Not clearly defined", "None", or something similar. 2604:3D08:8B80:F00:D43B:EF46:9555:4265 (talk) 23:49, 26 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
