What I meant to say was: From the way Zambia defines the word "city", we only have 5 cities in Zambia at the moment (since February 2017; as stated in the introduction of the Chipata article). Those 5 cities are Lusaka, Kitwe, Ndola, Livingstone and Chipata.
So, what criteria are we using to mention other towns like Luanshya, Mufulira & Kasama under the "Cities" section? Would it be okay if I removed them & only left the 5 cities that I have mentioned here? GeographicAccountant (talk) 11:32, 2 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
So, a city according to Zambia's definition of the word is "the headquarters of a district that is run by a city council". What this means is that if the council that is responsible for that district is not referred to as a city council, then that district's main centre has no right to be called a city.
Note that in Zambia, we have three levels of Local Government, namely "city council" (the highest), "municipal council" and "town council" (also known as a "district council"; the lowest), as stated at This Website. As stated in the previous paragraph, only a "city council" can consist of a city.
So, back to what I said at first, a city is only a place that is the responsibility of a city council, which means that we only have 5 cities in Zambia (Lusaka; Kitwe;Ndola; Livingstone; Chipata). The remaining settlements in Zambia are ALL not "cities" at the moment according to Zambia's definition.
Since I feel that this article should reflect what I have written here, I will start editing this article in a few days. In short, "Luanshya; Mufulira; Kasama; Kabwe; Chingola" should not be listed under "cities". Thanks.
