Playground sculptures?
editThere are some wonderful examples in the Perth area and far suburbs, with new ones appearing all the time. I think they are worth documenting, because they are always so much more fun and creative than statues and monuments for grown-ups. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.169.119.226 (talk) 05:39, 11 June 2013 (UTC)
Earlier comments
editI can't quite work out how this page has been sorted. I would propose sorting it by location (since the list is already location specific "WA"), and then by any other criteria. User:AleatoricConsonance
- I admit it's a bit loose, but currently it's by surname and if that's not there, by subject: eg. Red Kelpie Dog, or Hopscotch. Feel free to change it if you wish. - —Moondyne 03:49, 15 August 2005 (UTC)
Image Gallery
editI have added a few more images to the page, but I'm a bit mindful of it turning into a photo gallery. Please modify if need be, cheers Nachoman-au 12:15, 17 October 2005 (UTC)
- I say go for it. It's a visual topic. -- —Moondyne 12:37, 17 October 2005 (UTC)
Causeway/Police
editThere was a sculpture/memorial to police slain in the course of duty, and of course Walsh and Pitman the gold stealing detectives who were killed on the goldfields, on the causeway side of the police HQ - I have neither the details or a photo, but maybe worth mentioning.User:SatuSuro 06:35, 27 November 2005 (UTC)
- The following quotes are extracted from a W. A. Police Service Media Release in April 2002 "The dedication of the Police Chapel, located at the Western Australia Police Academy Lakeside Drive Joondalup, will take place on Sunday 7 April 2002 at 2:00pm." "The Chapel is comprised of the main hall seating 150 people..." "The main hall opens out to a paved forecourt and Memorial Garden to allow for larger gatherings such as the National Police Remembrance Day Service. The focal point of this area is the Pitman and Walsh statue - a monument to all police officers and police assistants killed by offenders in the execution of their duty." I generally assumed this page was about statues in public places or accessible to the general public however I don't know how publically accessible the Walsh and Pitman statue now is. Perhaps if someone knows it's status it could be put on the page. --Lanyon 16:58, 27 November 2005 (UTC)
2nd C.Y O'Connor Statue
editI hear occasionally that there is another statue of C. Y. O'Connor, sitting on a horse, near to, or actually in, the ocean. Does anyone know the location of this statue? Or if it exists at all? AleatoricConsonance 02:41, 8 January 2006 (UTC)
- Apparently yes at Coogee Beach [1], very interesting. Nachoman-au 08:41, 8 January 2006 (UTC)
- Found a better image [2] Nachoman-au 08:44, 8 January 2006 (UTC)
- Pardon me for being pedantic, but just in case you're planning on visiting it: it's actually 2½km north of Coogee beach, at the south end of C. Y. O'Connor beach. It pretty much exactly marks the site of his suicide. User:Hesperian 11:18, 8 January 2006 (UTC)
- Cool. I guess I'll add it then! AleatoricConsonance 13:55, 9 January 2006 (UTC)

Statues ... or Sculptures?
editJust noticed that someone has added "The Call" in the Perth Cultural centre. I don't feel that "The Call" is a statue as such; it is properly a sculpture or artwork. That is, It does not represent anything factual, historic, or notable in either theme, form or the context in which it is placed. Any objections if I remove it? What are other's thoughts on the matter? AleatoricConsonance 10:54, 15 January 2006 (UTC)
- That was me :) Good point, I didn't really tweak to that. I'm not really bothered or not to its inclusion so feel free either way. Cheers Nachoman-au 11:54, 15 January 2006 (UTC)
- Removed. Is there a list of sculptures/artwork for WA? Is it interesting or important enough to warrant a separate article? AleatoricConsonance 13:34, 17 January 2006 (UTC)
There is no doubt that "The Call" or "The Caller" is both a statue and a sculpture. It is also a work of art as are all the statues and sculptures on the list. The concept that AleatoricConsonance is bringing to the list is the concept of "memorial" or "monument". "The Caller" may not be a memorial to a specific person or event but it is a statue. If "The Caller" is removed from the list then so also the "Kangaroos" and "Hopscotch" are in doubt. I previously made the observation that "I generally assumed this page (this list) was about statues in public places or accessible to the general public." Lanyon 06:32, 22 September 2007 (UTC)

Missing items
editDoes not yet include 1). Sir Charles Court, cnr Mount St and St Georges Tce, 2). Judith, Howard St, 3). three Stirling Gardens sculptures, 4). the sculpture in the Alluvion Courtyard off The Esplanade, or the 5). marble "couple" sculpture, cnr Mill St and St Georges Tce. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Artistry9 (talk • contribs)
- Thanks. First 2 are now added to the list. I'm not familiar with the other three, but if you are and can provide some details, please include them or post details here and I'll update the list. Moondyne (talk) 13:02, 14 July 2012 (UTC)
I now have an extensive set of photos of further Perth region sculptures; if someone wants to build them into this site and winkle out the extra info such as date, sculptor, sculpture name, let me know. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Artistry9 (talk • contribs) 08:24, 14 January 2014 (UTC)
