Bio tidbits in Legionnaire section

The Legionnaire section of this article can be no more than a simple streamlined reference list, which notes only that its listed have been awarded a specific honor, the LOM, at the rank of Legionnaire. Unlike the Chief Commander, Commander and Officer ranks of this award, where there have been only a relatively few awards of the LOM at the ranks and the reasons for the awards and individuals receiving them can be briefly elaborated for the convenience of the reader, there have been thousands of awards of the LOM at the rank of Legionnaire. Of the well over 3000 awards of the LOM, the vast, vast majority of the awards have been at the rank of Legionnaire. This is the only rank at which the LOM is awarded to personnel of the U.S. Armed Forces. The Legionnaire section has potential of becoming very large just as a streamlined reference list of individuals who have receivied the award at the Legionnaire rank.

If the reasons for even a small portion of the awards at the Legionnaire rank or the individuals receiving the awards are elaborated in its section, the list of awards shall quickly become unwieldy and near useless as a reference list. This Legionnaire section of the list Recipients of the LOM does not contain a column for comments and rightly so. Biographical notes can not be practically added in this section because of its shear number of potential recipients who may be listed in it, especially, where the notes are redundant as the subject of the LOM award is Wikipedia notable on other grounds and has a linked article already available to the reader and containing other biographical information. Unlike with sections for the other ranks of the LOM, this Legionnaires section is not intended to contain only a relatively short list of individual recipients, who can be generally described for the readers convenience so they may avoid further research. Unrelated bio notes on Legionnaires and notes on reasons for their awards shall simply clutter the section, quickly, rendering its text enormous and it useless for its purpose as a reference list.

For the above reasons, I shall be removing the spatter of biographical tidbits included with the list of Legionnaire recipients where the recipients are Wikipedia notable otherwise. Where the recipient of the LOM is not linked to a main biographical article in Wikipedia, I shall be incorporating any such brief notes of contributors into the references supporting the award, so the notes are still available to the reader, but the added info shall not become disruptive of the reference list's purpose. Where is Col Glover Johns Jr??

== Where is Col. Glover S. Johns, Jr who lead the 1st Battalion 18th Infantry into Berlin during the 1961 Berlin Wall Crisis under direct orders from President JFK, through 300 miles of hostile/enemy/USSR territory from Mannheim to Berlin without a shot being fired - which many felt, as it was written in at least 3 European news magazines that Col Johns had "World War III in his holster..." The entire city of Berlin turned out to meet the 18th Infantry, and Vice President Lyndon Johnson was there to greet Col Johns as well and subsequently award 1 of 5 LOM to the USA Army Infantry Colonel who went on to serve as Chief Intelligence Officer in Berlin during arguably the two most perilous years of the the Cold War. This event was also photographed, full page, in the Oct 6 or 9, 1961 edition of LIFE Magazine with the First Lady on the cover on the White House Balcony. Criteria

Are the criteria listed in Legion of Merit still in use ? Quite a few of post-WW2 Chief Commanders are not chiefs of State or Government (ministers, chiefs of staff) while many Commanders are not Chiefs of Staff. 217.167.255.177 (talk) 09:19, 6 April 2022 (UTC)
