editCan we at least state the season in which the song was performed and the person who sang it on the show? The list as it stands is pretty uninformative. Hermione1980 22:56, 17 January 2006 (UTC)
- I agree. If it's not cleaned up in the next week or so, I'm going to submit it for deletion. -- MisterHand 21:01, 21 January 2006 (UTC)
- I can transform this page into something similar I done for Australian Idol - List of Australian Idol semi finalists which not only identifies the semi finalists, but who sang the songs individually. ZlatkoT 14:17, 29 January 2006 (UTC)
- We actually have something like that for the American show: List of American Idol semi-finalists. What this page needs to be is the reverse, for each song we need a list of the contestants who sang it (at the bareminimum) for it to be useful. I'm going to add an {{tl:expand}} tag to the article. -- MisterHand 17:49, 29 January 2006 (UTC)
- How do you think it should be formatted? Song title, original artist, then performer and season on AI, for example "Against All Odds" by Phil Collins (Scott Savol, Season 4)? Should we include the theme for that week? I've got all that information for season 4, and I can get who sang the song for season 1 from the website, but I don't know about any of the other seasons. Possible format example
editSomething like this might be nice, and would be easy to add into the existing article:
- "Against All Odds" by Phil Collins
- Scott Savol, Season 4

- Looks good to me. Hermione1980 19:52, 29 January 2006 (UTC)
What I've done
editI've entered in every contestant/song from the finals of Season 4, all the finalists' semifinal performances, and Aloha Mischeaux and Amanda Avila's performances in the semifinals, per idolonfox. I just can't handle doing any more ATM, so if anyone else wants to pick up where I've left off, feel free. I'll come back to it soon, but not right away. Hermione1980 22:51, 29 January 2006 (UTC)
- An excellent start! Nice work. -- MisterHand 00:33, 30 January 2006 (UTC)
Somebody who has notes from Season 3 (and probably prior shows, too, I haven't checked) needs to do the semifinalists; the links on idolonfox aren't working. Hermione1980 01:46, 31 January 2006 (UTC)
- Another thing we need to do is set a bar for inclusion. I see someone has just added William Hung, "She Bangs". I'm not inclined to include anyone who at least didn't make it to the semifinals, and I could easily be persuaded to ditch the semifinalists who didn't make it to the finals, too. Thoughts? Hermione1980 01:55, 31 January 2006 (UTC)
- I disagree. Some of the early-season performances are just as memorable (if not more so!) than some of the later-season ones. I would make exceptions for the ones that were particularly "notable" (i.e., any contestant who was drummed out but mentioned again later in the series (Leroy Wells, William Hung, etc.) -HX 15:11, 2 February 2006 (UTC)
- Everyone mentioned well had notability though...look around and you'd see fan clubs (even today) for many contestants (primarily of Seasons 3 and 4) that were cut in Hollywood... CrazyC83 06:37, 4 February 2006 (UTC)

Added Season 1 Semis
editI've added all the Season 1 semifinalist and wildcard performances. Main source was idolonfox archives with supplementary artist info from realitynewsonline and foxesonidol. I am planning to try to get all the way up to Season 3 to fill in the gaps. My only concern is how big this page is getting. Hopefully you all enjoy the additions. 69.25.170.22 01:29, 12 March 2006 (UTC)Vijay
Qualifications
editWhat are the qualifications for a song being on the list? Is it only the songs sung by contestants who were in the top 24 (the semifinalists)? the top 12 (finalists)? Does it include songs they sang during auditions and semifinals?—mjb 05:09, 14 April 2006 (UTC)
Which "All My Life" was sung by Fantasia Barrino? disambig needed
editThe list shows "All My Life" was sung by Fantasia Barrino; All My Life is a Wikipedia:Disambiguation page, so a more specific link is preferred. According to Fantasia Barrino#Early life, Barrino is a cousin of both members of K-Ci and JoJo. This makes the odds pretty good that the "All My Life" she sang was All My Life (K-Ci and JoJo song) as opposed to All My Life (Linda Ronstadt song) (or the even less likely All My Life (Foo Fighters song)), but I don't know enough about American Idol to do a proper disambiguation on List of songs performed on American Idol. 66.167.253.146 03:47, 24 May 2006 (UTC).
- It was indeed the K-Ci and JoJo version. I can make the change. Walkerb4 16:19, 24 May 2006 (UTC)
