"turned back, abandoned, or null routes"?
editThis is the name given to 7xxx routes. Any idea what they are? Apparently they are used for toll roads - like most of the Turnpike is 7076 - but the only source for that is pahighways.com - nothing on PennDOT's site.
- Turnback: A program through which a state highway owned by PennDOT is given back to the local municipality for to maintence. Before a highway is turned back to a municipality, the Department improves it to the appropriate standard. --SPUI (T - C) 19:55, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

How about listing those Traffic routes whose number does not match the official State Route number?
editI find "A different number can also be used to avoid conflicts between different types.", followed by mention of I-380 and PA 380 (the latter is official SR 400). There is also I-283 and PA 283 (the latter is official SR 300). A list of these would be short, right? I have questions about 3 other cases, one of which no longer exists at this writing:
PA 17 coming off US 11/15 (Perry County), and the PA 17 which became part of I-86.
US 422 exists in 2 pieces in Pennsylvania.

Broken PennDOT FTP Links
editI've noticed that a large number of PA road articles reference URLs beginning with ftp://ftp.dot.state.pa.us/
These are all now broken due to the state getting rid of its FTP. Some have been replaced with archive copies, but current URLs can generally be fixed by simply changing to http://www.dot.state.pa.us/

PennDOT document has disappeared
editMuch of this article, and a whole bunch of individual PA route articles, use an old PennDOT document as a reference for route lengths. See the current footnote #10 in this article. It looks like that PennDOT source has disappeared and a Wikipedia bot has modified the reference code to point to an irrelevant (for us) new site on construction diagrams. I can find no official current document in the sites for PennDOT or the PA government that offers information on particular route lengths, which in turn could be used to fix these now broken references. - You add up the length of the route in each county it passes through since the SLDs are by county. Some routes have concurrences with other routes in which the mileage of the concurrency is inventoried under the other route, so those need to be accounted for. Dough4872 18:16, 30 April 2019 (UTC)

"Clearly Existed"
editThere are several entries in this list claiming a former route number that "clearly existed" via circumstantial evidence. See e.g PA 556 and PA 583 among others. I don't find this very convincing and recommend that such entries be removed, unless someone can come up with true evidence that those routes really existed and were signed as such. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (TALK|CONTRIBS) 18:12, 10 June 2021 (UTC)
- I believe the logic is that many 3 digit routes in Pennsylvania are considered to be spur routes based off of a main route – for example PA-32 has PA-232, PA-332, and PA-532 all of which terminate into PA-32, from which one can deduce that PA-432 exists or at some point existed and terminated into PA-32, which is true; however, I am unsure if this pattern counts as sufficient evidence for these roads ever having existed, especially if they are not found on maps. I'd also like to see some evidence for these routes having existed if they're listed as having existed, not just extrapolated existence. snood1205(Say Hi! (talk))
- Thanks for your insight, and that's the "circumstantial" evidence to which I referred. Since there is a PA 56 and PA 756, then is that enough evidence to claim that PA 556 "clearly existed" just because numerically it is in between the two? I don't think so. Circumstantial evidence is unconvincing, and having those entries in this list article doesn't add much to the reader's knowledge. - We cannot just assume a highway existed because it falls within a numbering scheme. It’s possible the state could have skipped around when assigning numbers. The best way to verify if a highway exists is through PennDOT maps (an archive of some of the maps is here) or other historical maps. There is also Jeff Kitsko’s Pennsylvania Highways website, however this is a WP:SPS and cannot be used as a source within articles. Dough4872 01:50, 13 June 2021 (UTC)
