Talk:List of streets in West Perth

Paths

edit

If the article is to include paths as well as streets (per the section heading, and some entries in the table), I propose that the article should be renamed "List of streets and paths..." accordingly. Mitch Ames (talk) 11:57, 22 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Proposal to split the article into two

edit

Given:

  • the apparently arbitrary conflation of Kings Park and West Perth (but see also User talk:Mitch Ames#Read it carefully)
  • the inclusion of Kings Park paths in the table (but not the title)
  • there are more paths in Kings Park than streets/roads

I propose that we should split List of streets in Kings Park and West Perth into two separate articles:

The lead sentence for List of streets and paths in Kings Park could be something like:

Kings Park, Western Australia is a mixture of approximately one-third grassed parkland and botanical gardens, and two-thirds native bushland. Several roads provide vehicular access to the grassed area and gardens, and a network of pedestrian and shared use pathes go through the bushland.[1]

When I say "we should split", I mean I'm happy to do the work, but first I'd like some consensus to go ahead with it. (It's too big a change for WP:BRD.) Mitch Ames (talk) 13:18, 25 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

OK, it's done. If we're going to have a lot of these "List of streets in [suburb]", then I suggest we not list them all in the "See also" section of each article - perhaps instead we need a category "list of streets/roads in WA by suburb". Mitch Ames (talk) 09:48, 26 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
see also should only cover those related suburbs in the same Local Government area. Gnangarra 12:14, 26 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
And-or a navbox of suburbs, grouped by WA regions, for both the suburbs in one set of groups and the suburbs' street lists in another set of groups ? Aoziwe (talk) 11:09, 26 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
Please don't roll out anymore of these articles in light of the discussion at the Crawley/Nedlands page. I'm refraining from nominating the West Perth list for deletion out of respect to you guys and the Museum of Perth, but it (and probably Kings Park as well) is inevitably gone as well when someone nominates it: these suburban street naming guides are just not encyclopedic and it's ensuring an unpleasant outcome for this collaboration. Street naming is an encyclopaedic topic, its also a significant area of study when it comes to urban planning and cartography. Add to that the origins of road names reflect political, and historical events related to the time in which an area is created. Alternatively when a whole new suburb is created at once they can reflect a relationship to suburbs name origins. Gnangarra 12:14, 26 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
