Bowl cut Ilustration

edit

Why "Bowl cut / Dylann Roof" is illustrated by fragment of old ukranian poster of soviet times?

Poster shows to ukranian man: father and son. Father tells: ″Son! Admit to the school of red officers and the protection of Soviet Ukraine is provided!". There is also "hammer and sickle" symbol. File:Ukposter.jpg — Preceding unsigned comment added by 176.226.172.225 (talk) 21:24, 6 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

At least it's a cropped image from the poster. That appears to be the only image that a search on commons:"bowl cut" returns that is not an image of a recognizable person. I don't think it's a good idea to use an image of a person unless they are a member of Bowl Patrol. The File:Dylann Roof mugshot.jpg photo can't be used as it is wp:Non free and is restricted to the Dylann Roof article. Got a freely uploadable image of a bowl cut? Could also change the poster's colors and flip the image to disguise it. Adakiko (talk) 23:15, 6 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

The link to the ADF symbol list, https://www.adl.org/hatesymbolsdatabase, is currently dead. If somebody knows a current way to connect to the list, please fix the link in the page. Pete unseth (talk) 15:20, 20 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Wrong information & lack of proper references associated with use of Pit Bull by hate groups

edit

Hi. I wanted to make an edit, but I can't seem to edit the main content. I would appreciate if someone who knows how to edit could correct the error outlined below.

This article mirsrepresents what the ADL says about the Pit Bull's use in skinhead circles and fails to show the image of the Keystone State Skinheads' symbol.

This is what the article says: "A common subject of neo-Nazi memes as stand-ins for black people, implying their inherent violence/criminality.[original research?]"

This is WHAT THE ADL PAGE ACTUALLY SAYS (https://www.adl.org/resources/hate-symbol/pit-bull): "The pit bull has long been used as a skinhead symbol, presumably because of its reputation as a "fighting" dog. Many racist skinheads and other white supremacists own or even raise pit bulls. White supremacists use one specific pit bulll graphic so often that it has become a white supremacist symbol itself. One racist skinhead group, the Keystone State Skinheads (at one time known as Keystone United) even adopted it as part of their logo." See also: https://www.adl.org/resources/hate-symbol/keystone-state-skinheads

The SPLC also shows the Pit Bull associated with the Keystone State Skinheads and the Bull Dog as part of a UK skinhead patch: https://www.splcenter.org/fighting-hate/intelligence-report/2006/look-racist-skinhead-symbols-and-tattoos

I can imagine there are some Pit Bull sympathizers that want to hide the dogs' connection to some white supremacist segments, but it is wrong to lie and misrepresent what organizations such as the ADL and SPLC say to protect dogs' reputation. People have to be aware of these symbols because it helps identify people involved with these groups. People who are okay with protecting white supremacists in order to shield dogs need to question their own racists attitudes in prioritizng a dog over POC.

Thank you,

Kate

P.S. On a side note, what will help improve the dogs' reputation is promoting responsible dog ownership, not lying about a breeds past or present. Irresponsible owner behavior led to breed specific ordinances in the early 1900s and it's what leads to calls to reinstate them or to implement bans today.

@Kate8679 I noticed this too. Fixed.
I mean, it is a thing I've noticed on social media, but it isn't anywhere close to the ADL's own description of it. PARAKANYAA (talk) 11:54, 24 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hi. Thanks for making the change. And, yes, I've seen all kinds of things on social media. I only knew about the connection with white supremacy and what the ADL site said because I've been doing some research on Neo-Nazis. Kate8679 (talk) 17:01, 24 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
