What is the true height of Edades, 205 m or 161 m?

edit

While it is understandable that two sources may give different heights for a building, they are usually within reasonable range from each other. However, for Edades Tower and Garden Villas, we get 205 m from emporis.com, but 161 m from skyscrapercenter.com. How come there is such a big gap between the two values? Titus III (talk) 18:40, 21 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

Your pick between who you think is more reliable: Emporis or the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat. :)--RioHondo (talk) 03:54, 22 June 2016 (UTC)Reply
But Emporis formed a partnership with CTBUH so their database should be similar. However, I think 161 m for 53 floors is a bit short, so there may have been a typo and Edades could be taller than 161 m. Too bad Edades doesn't have an official website. (In my opinion, if a company can afford to spend billions of pesos on a project, they should be able to afford one measly section of their company's website which includes official stats, press releases, images, etc. of a particular building of theirs.) The Skyscraper Center's total count as of June 2016

edit

As of June 2016, Skyscraper Center gives the Philippines a total of 66 buildings that are 150 m and taller, putting it in the Top Ten in the world with the most skyscrapers. But they need to do an update. The table in the Wikipedia article lists 80 (found from other sources). The additional 14, all of which can be found in emporis.com, are (in alphabetical order):

Number Building Location Height (m) Floors Year
1 Beaufort East Tower BGC 170 43 2013
2 Beaufort West Tower BGC 170 43 2013
3 Forbes Tower (West) Makati CBD 150 42 2009
4 Marco Polo Hotel Ortigas Center 180 41 2015
5 One McKinley Place BGC 149 43 2004
5 Orient Square Ortigas Center 160 38 1999
6 Park Terraces 1 Makati CBD 187 49 2015
7 Pearl of the Orient Tower Ermita 168 42 2004
8 Salcedo Park Tower 1 Makati CBD 151 45 1996
9 Salcedo Park Tower 2 Makati CBD 151 45 1996
10 Summit One Tower Mandaluyong 190 49 1998
11 The Infinity, Fort Bonifacio BGC 190 53 2001
12 Trion Towers 1 BGC 170 49 2012
13 Trion Towers 2 BGC 170 49 2015
14 Wharton Parksuites Binondo 155 39 2012

Question: Why did Skyscraper Central miss these (especially the older ones) and how do we ask them to update their database? Also, regarding One McKinley Place, technically its height is given as 149 m. Should we include it in the table, considering there may be allowance for error? Titus III (talk) 20:41, 21 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for keeping this article up to date. I found little information on the true height of this building from reliable sources, except that it has 43 floors. Both skyscrapercenter and KMC mag put it at 149 m. Lets stick to that figure and you may remove it from the list for now. Im not sure how people can update those online databases tho, so i cant help you on that one. But thanks for all your help here! Btw You can also check out Template:Manila Skyscrapers. Cheers!--RioHondo (talk) 03:27, 22 June 2016 (UTC)Reply
You're welcome. It was interesting updating it. It was a bit surprising to find that the Philippines was in the Top Ten. Anyway, I deleted the entry on One McKinley Place (just one meter short!). Fortunately, it turned out that Park Terraces 1 is already finished, so total count remains at 80 skyscrapers in Metro Manila. Titus III (talk) 16:33, 22 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

More than 100 skyscrapers by 2020?

edit

As of June 2016, if we look at the statistics of 80 (completed) + 41 (under construction) = 121 (total):

Years No of Bldgs.
1991-1995 3
1996-2000 19
2001-2005 13
2006-2010 13
2011-2015 35
2016-2020 38
Total 121

While we can't expect all buildings to be done on schedule, but from the track record, I guess it is safe to say they can easily finish 15-30 skyscrapers in half a decade. So by 2020, the Philippines can indeed have more than 100 skyscrapers taller than 150 m. The question is: Can the Metro Manila economy really absorb that much expensive residential/office space that fast, or is the real estate bubble being inflated a wee bit much? Federal Land Tower is 318m

edit

Federal Land Tower has been topped off and is recorded at 318 m including the spire. https://manila.grand.hyatt.com/en/hotel/home.html Themanilaxperience (talk) 08:04, 22 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Apparently, the old design before 2008 was indeed 318 m. However, according to the post (www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=670574) around Oct 2008 they did a redesign and scaled down to about 258 m which is the height given by Skyscraper Central and Emporis.com. The post you cited, does seem to be confident of the 318 m figure though the author could be just citing the old plans. As a compromise, we'll use both estimates. When the building opens in the first quarter of 2017, I'm sure a more official press release will be given. (P.S. I seriously doubt the spire is the difference of 60m.) Titus III (talk) 18:06, 22 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
The design featured in the skyscraper site does not have the spire in its design. But again, this is a recent site and its firm on the said height. I'm also frequent in Skyscrapercity, in fact I'm one of the moderators in The Philippine Forum. Themanilaxperience (talk) 14:00, 23 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
Ah, glad to meet you then. Hm, here's a pic of the Hyatt without the spire and with the spire. Personally, I'd like the Grand Hyatt Hotel to be also supertall (300m+) like the nearly finished Stratford Residences. Then the Philippines will have two supertall buildings. We'll know for sure by 2017 when both will be finished, and see what superlatives they use in their official press releases. Bragging rights can have marketing implications. As of now, Hyatt claims it will be located in the tallest building in the Philippines, while Stratford says it will be the tallest residential tower. At 312 m, if Stratford adds a short 10 m spire, then it will get the title of tallest building in ph. Titus III (talk) 16:33, 23 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

True height of the Light Residences?

edit

What is the true height of the three towers of Light Residences? Emporis cites an estimate (not an official figure) of 147 m [1] but as the three towers have 50 floors each [2] they could surpass the minimum of 150 m required by this article's table. Titus III (talk) 01:59, 24 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

Manila hotel - inconsistency

edit

A reader (ticket:2018092310004055) noted that there are two articles discussing the tallest buildings in the Phillipines:

Each has a table covering a timeline. The titles and text are identical but the contents differ. While one might expect that the second table would include only buildings in Metro Manila, while the first might include buildings outside metro Manila, that is not the difference of note.

The Manila hotel is identified (in the Metro Manila article) as being the tallest between 1912 and 1928, with 5 floors, and also as the tallest between 1935 and 1967 with seven floors. In contrast, the Manila hotel is identified (in the Philippines article) as being the tallest between 1912 and 1967 with 18 floors.

Could someone do the necessary research and correct one (or both ) articles?--S Philbrick(Talk) 13:31, 24 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

List Discrepancy

edit

The text above the table says there are 215 skyscrapers that fit the criteria, but there are only 136 buildings in the list. I see that some of the buildings are missing due to not having known heights, but either the list or that figure of 215 should be fixed. LivinAWestLife (talk) 14:07, 25 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

True height of Grand Riviera Suites in Ermita, Manila

edit

This list puts the height of Grand Riviera Suites at 230 meters, but when you look at this actual photo of the building, it does not even surpass the spire of 1322 Golden Empire Tower which is listed at 203 meters. Possible typo on source?
