Exclusion of St Peter’s
editCan someone please explain why St Peter’s is not listed among the tallest buildings? It’s clearly in Rome. It’s still there and hasn’t shrunk. It pretty clearly seems to be a building to me, this page even says so. The Torre Eurosky page lists St Peter’s as predecessor tallest building in Rome with a link to this page. So why is it not in the list? 108.7.74.54 (talk) 13:18, 6 October 2022 (UTC)
- Maybe it depends on your exact definition of 'Rome', as although you state St Peter's Basilica is clearly in Rome, it is in fact located in the separate territory of Vatican City. It doesn't help that the Pope also takes the title Bishop of Rome, which is administered through Rome's cathedral, the Archbasilica of Saint John Lateran, located outside of Vatican City proper.
- Consequently, contrary to popular misconception, St Peter's is a church, and not a cathedral because it is not the seat of a bishop.
- However, in common usage, and depending on context, elements of the Vatican City may be considered an integral part of Rome itself. There are certainly plenty of articles here on wikipedia that blur the distinction, and this article is just one of them. WendlingCrusader (talk) 01:59, 29 February 2024 (UTC)
