Hawaii
editI note that the former monarchs of Hawaii are included here; however, Hawaii states that the islands are "physiographically and ethnologically part of the Polynesian subregion of Oceania," Oceania lists Hawaii as part of that region, and the continental models image shows Hawaii as part of the Australian continent, though the image for the article United Nations geoscheme for the Americas shows Hawaii as being part of North America. Which is accurate? --Miesianiacal (talk) 08:13, 14 December 2008 (UTC)
- I agree with you. Hawai is not part of the Americas. Just as the Phillipines, another former dependency of the United States, is not part of the Americas.--Gazzster (talk) 09:55, 14 December 2008 (UTC)
- Only, that pesky UN seems to place Hawaii as part of North America... I also note that Guam and American Samoa are listed here; I'm certain they're not part of the America's as well, despite the name of the latter. --Miesianiacal (talk) 10:10, 14 December 2008 (UTC)
- Heh! Guess which nation having a permanent seat on the Security Council would like to change geography?--Gazzster (talk) 10:26, 14 December 2008 (UTC)?
- Lol. True. I've removed the non-American territories. --Miesianiacal (talk) 20:47, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
- Hey! I don't seem to have a voice in this. Well I first created this article under the name List of the last monarchs of the United States, then I kept changing to felt more info that I was adding into it. Is there a way to name this article so that instead of, meaning the Americas (S. and N. America), it would mean S. and N. America + their outlying territory ie. the outlying Pacific islands belonging to the U.S. ? For example like List of the last monarchs who ruled the Americas and outlying islands or List of the last monarchs who ruled in Western Hemisphere Thanks for listening! Queen Elizabeth II's Little Spy (talk) 06:01, 18 December 2008 (UTC)
- Seems a little long for an article title! And a bit complicated.--Gazzster (talk) 13:55, 18 December 2008 (UTC)
- I agree with Gazz; the bounds of the article subject should be defined either by the geo-politics of one state, or simply by geography itself. Trying to mix both will, I imagine, make for a very long article with a very long title. --Miesianiacal (talk) 15:27, 18 December 2008 (UTC)

Just wanted to also point out that by the time Hawaii was incorporated into the USA, it was at the time no longer a monarchy anyways, thus never a part of continental America. That-Vela-Fella (talk) 14:15, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
- Gave up on the including Hawaii and Pacific Islands. But User:That-Vela-Fella that this article includes monarch who were overthrown prior to incorporation into the U.S. (ie. Louisiana's last monarch was Charles IV of Spain, but it was sold by the Republic of France to the U.S.) Queen Elizabeth II's Little Spy (talk) 19:21, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
- This is somewhat ridiculous. Of course Hawaii ought to be included. The list shouldn't restrict itself by some rigid devotion to geographical boundaries,, it should include all the areas of countries that are based in the Americas. It would be one thing if there was a separate list for "last monarchs of the (territories that became the) United States", but that's just a redirect back here. Any confusion could be cleared up in the opening: "This is a list of last monarchs of nations and territories in the Americas. It includes last monarchs of dependencies and outside states of those countries." The problem with making individual lists for each country is that it will just duplicate the material that is here already. I'm going to add them back in, per the argument of Queen Elizabeth II's Little Spy.--Cúchullain t/c 17:54, 1 February 2009 (UTC)
Spain
editWhen Puerto Rico was lost, the spanish king actually ended it's rule in early 1899, not Dec. 1898 (due to the treaty of Paris wasn't yet ratified till the next year & formal handover done). That-Vela-Fella (talk) 09:54, 23 December 2008 (UTC)

Indigenous monarchies
editBesides the last European monarchs we should included any of the last Native American personels, who were monarchs rather than chiefs, before their peoples' conquest by the Europeans. --Queen Elizabeth II's Little Spy (talk) 04:28, 19 March 2009 (UTC)
- Would Chief Powhatan be considered a monarch? Since the European called him King even though he was only a chief. ----
Date Ceased ordering
editWhen sorting the "States" section by "Date Ceased" Nicholas I Appears at the top despite the date being over 50 years off, according the the actually listed dates. I'm not sure how to fix, so I'm adding it here for the issue. Grinola (talk) 06:20, 2 February 2020 (UTC)
