Towns
editThe towns section could do with some additions of the most popular towns to visit in Wales. Thanks!Titus Gold (talk) 22:51, 8 July 2022 (UTC)

Inclusion Criteria
editThe top 10 paid and free attractions are reliably sourced and meet WP:LISTN without any difficulty, but the list of attractions by settlement seems a bit more indiscriminate, as does the list of independent attractions. Having said that, I find it odd (but can't argue with the numbers) that Oakwood isn't in the top 10 paid. I think the problem here, however, is that there are huge numbers of tourist attractions, and a list that simply invites editors to add their favourites is indiscriminate. Is there a longer list of paid and free attractions we could appeal to? Sirfurboy🏄 (talk) 09:10, 27 July 2023 (UTC)
- It's bordering on 'indiscriminate' and not very helpful, I agree. Tourists could visit anywhere ...except perhaps Cwmbran ;) I'd say we should have some sort of independent proof of the 'attractiveness' to tourists, at the very least, other than sources like the Visit Wales website (which is promotional). It may even be a case of BLOWITUP if there are no other precedents for indiscriminate lists like this. Sionk (talk) 11:17, 27 July 2023 (UTC)
- In terms of precedent, this list does seem to be a combination of what other lists at Lists of tourist attractions do, them usually having one overall criteria. I believe a focus on the "top attractions" could warrant this list like List of tourist attractions in Denmark, while the other sections could be merged into their specific articles or as in Lists of tourist attractions converted into localised lists like List of tourist attractions in Cardiff etc, if deemed worthy, but I am getting ahead of myself. So if there is a larger list of attractions in Wales somewhere, fine replacing this article with just that.
- Although note List of tourist attractions in Ireland, List of tourist attractions in Taiwan and List of South Korean tourist attractions seem to be listing every attraction with an article, so that is another criteria too. While List of tourist attractions in the United Arab Emirates lists them by area, but as one article not a clear precedent.
- It could be like Lists of tourist attractions in England at a later date and be converted into a list of lists, when such lists are made. I'll try to see if a larger top attractions list can be found, but no guarantee. DankJae 01:13, 31 July 2023 (UTC)
ALVA lists
editThis is another one - like Lists of Welsh restaurants, where upkeep is going to be challenging, but the ALVA lists would be a good place to start. That places St Fagans as No. 1, [1]. KJP1 (talk) 11:01, 21 August 2024 (UTC)
- Have now updated the Top x free attractions in line with the 2023 ALVA figures. The Welsh Government appears not to have published data since 2021, [2]. These are obviously Covid-influenced, with a heavy outdoor bias, but I still find them rather odd. How the first two count as "free" is beyond me:
- Barry Island Pleasure Park (1,250,000)
- Tir Prince Fun Park (1,000,000)
- Pembrey Country Park (804,513)
- Newborough Nature Reserve (559,939)
- Snowdon (544,489)
- Gwydir Forest Park (408,511)
- Wepre Park (400,000)
- Stackpole Nature Reserve (390,498)
- Margam Country Park (305,678)
- Pontcysyllte Aqueduct (285,411)
There may well be better ways of presenting this stuff. On a related point, the lead image of the Wales Millenium Centre seems a bit awry, as it doesn't appear on either the WG's or on ALVA's lists. KJP1 (talk) 08:59, 23 August 2024 (UTC)
