Add Floyd Mayweather?

'( why didn't he retire after 1 more fight. a 50 win looks so much better than 49. and then he would be in front of Marciano. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:8A0:6A67:C01:8CEC:C7EB:C86E:AFE6 (talk) 16:39, 24 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

2 loses on Floyd? What is the basis for such a claim. Floyd not only has no losses, he also has no draws either. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2607:FCC8:ABC7:7800:CBD:3F34:9BC6:6AD6 (talk) 12:44, 9 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Removal of flags?

edit

I would have thought that as soon as you have the word "world" in an article's title, it does become about where in the world the people are from. Just because flags are contentious does not been they should be banned... Thoughts? See List of Formula One World Drivers' Champions or List of world snooker champions or List of alpine skiing world champions or List of World Championships medalists in weightlifting (men) or World Archery Rankings or FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships. It's literally the standard. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 46.226.49.228 (talk) 12:51, 6 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

This issue has been done to death at boxing articles without result. Including them is most definitely not the standard. In the above articles, athletes explicitly represent nationalities. In professional boxing, one fighter can be German/Armenian/Welsh/Russian/Martian/Neptunian/any flag he happens to feel like. Hence MOS:FLAG#Consistency is not paramount and thereby MOS:SPORTFLAGS. Flags haven't been included in this article since its creation in 2013. Mac Dreamstate (talk) 12:59, 6 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
It's pretty hard to find a list of champions that doesn't have flags. It's the defining point of almost every person on wikipedia. And do you see the image at the top of this talk page? When you look him up, the lead text is as follows:
"Maximillian Adolph Otto Siegfried "Max" Schmeling was a German boxer who was heavyweight champion of the world between 1930 and 1932. His two fights with Joe Louis in 1936 and 1938 were worldwide cultural events because of their national associations."
I point to WP:NOCONSENSUS (bullet #2), in that something as contentuous as flags should not be introduced to a long-stable article version. Mac Dreamstate (talk) 13:02, 6 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
And I will emphasise that flags are certainly not universal across WP, whether or not examples are hard to find. MMA record tables have been strictly without flagicons since 2011, and in professional boxing record tables the WP:NOCONSENSUS result from 2015 was to retain them if they were originally in place, but to refrain from introducing them if they were not. Granted, this list is not a record table, but it is related to professional boxing and very much encompasses the same issue regarding flagicons. Mac Dreamstate (talk) 13:14, 6 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
If they play a national anthem then nationality is considered important in the sport. In this case, flags literally add information to the article that was not there before. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 46.226.49.228 (talk) 13:18, 6 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
National anthems have nothing to do with this. Not all professional boxing events play them—that's the amateurs, where nationalities are explicitly represented. In pros, they're not. Someone can hold a pro licence from one country, represent another, be born in another, and "feel in his heart" another three more. And if you keep reverting without resolution on here first, I'll be happy to join you at WP:DRN. Mac Dreamstate (talk) 13:22, 6 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
A "long-stable article version"? You've auto-reverted 8 people in the last year alone. Also, the reason it's not edited much is because nobody views it (it struggles to get 400 views per day (List of current world boxing champions gets more than 10 times that). I've recently made this page a bit more visible, so let's leave it some time and see if it's as contentious as you claim it is. MMA has nothiong to do with this.
Also, looking throught your links, it's been noted by others that you employ bullying and ownership tactics, and then hide bhind acronyms and accusations. So here's what we will do: you won't start an edit war, we will both leave the article alone, and see what other editors think. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 46.226.49.228 (talk) 08:29, 7 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
"So here's what we will do..." You're ordering me to do something? Please. Here's what I'll do: open up a discussion at WP:DRN, and probably later at WT:MOSICON if need be. Then, what you'll do is join me at DRN, and we'll have a nice ol' discussion without all this edit warring.
And so I use acronyms a lot—they're quicker to type, I've used them for a decade, and they go to the locations needed. Your accusations of bullying are noted with keen interest, and I'll be sure to bring up something as repugnant as acronym use regarding acceptable user conduct—that being yours, not mine. Mayweather

edit

So, the question remains, if Mayweather loses this month, will we delete him from the table, or just delete one of his rows? Maybe leave it intact, since he didn't lose while he was champion? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.64.24.69 (talk) 19:51, 8 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
