Genre?

edit

Was wondering, would it be useful to have a column describing the genre of each game? Shrumster (talk) 15:26, 22 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Undertale

edit

Should we add Undertale to this list? It did originally come from an Earthbound mod, so it would make sense...

Hello there reader. I'm just gonna say this... You're amazing. Thanks for possibly hearing me out and trying to add Undertale. And if you didn't, thanks too.

Why are Warcraft 3 maps listed as mods here?

edit

I don't expect a quick response but like many people, I'm currently stuck in an argument and multiple wikipedia pages have been cited, the argument is whether or not the original DotA is a mod or a map. As a former Warcraft 3 map maker, I take issue with calling player made maps mods because in the 29 odd years that players have been making custom maps since the first ever custom doom maps came out, no one has ever referred to these as mods, either maps or levels (in dooms case).

"This is a list of standalone video games that have been ported from a modification of another video game, and/or that are entirely based on a modification of another video game. "

Everything on this list (except the Warcraft maps) make sense to me, these games were modified in order to create those game modes, DotA etc on the other hand were never modifications, they were created using the games own map maker which is a huge difference, nothing external was used in the creation of any Warcraft 3 maps which is completely different to the likes of Alien swarm or Killing floor.

The page also links to modding which has this to say "The World Editor for Warcraft III (2002) allowed a variety of custom scenarios or maps to be created for the game, such as a number of tower defense and multiplayer online battle arena maps, the most notable of which was Defense of the Ancients."

Maps aren't mods and mods aren't maps, I have no idea why these have been listed here. Anyone able to shine some light on this? BlankF (talk) 18:13, 18 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
