New Zealand waterfalls

edit

The List of waterfalls by height has three New Zealand waterfalls higher than Sutherland Falls in Fiordland):

  • Browne Falls 2744 ft or 836 m; article refers to a high falls sourced from a tarn behind Elizabeth Island, and to Helena Waterfall. NB: Kirkpatrick p130 says "Browne Falls is the tallest at around 800m, but this is misleading: the 'fall' is in reality a steep stream".
  • Lake Chamberlain Falls 2297 ft or 700m
  • Lake Unknown Falls 2230 ft or 680m

The last two and Helena Waterfall have no article about them Hugo999 (talk) 01:53, 14 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Also from List of waterfalls for NZ, without articles: Hugo999 (talk) 03:41, 14 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

And from Mount Damper Falls article:

Comment from NZ noticeboard

From Wikipedia:New_Zealand_Wikipedians'_notice_board#New_Zealand_waterfalls:

This list of the world's highest waterfalls has Browne, Lake Unknown and Hidden (660m) and Wishbone (600m) all higher than Sutherland. The site seems to have made up their own names in some cases, based on the lake they originate from. The List of waterfalls by height seems based on this list. The citation for Lake Chamberlain Falls goes nowhere and it is not listed, nor is Helena (that I could find). DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 21:39, 11 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Info

edit

Had a poke around the interweb and did not get far. I have found:

  • Cheng, Johnny T. (2006). A guide to New Zealand waterfalls (1st ed ed.). Artesia, CA: Story Nature. ISBN 9780976955191. {{cite book}}: |edition= has extra text (help)

May have some useful info. Waterfall heights are sometimes on the topomaps. This was not the case with Helena Falls (note spelling). -- Alan Liefting (talk - contribs) 04:13, 14 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
