The article is over-linked - only the first Berlin or oil-on-canvas needs a link. We have articles on most of the specific museums - Kunsthalle is generic and Gemäldegalerie goes to Berlin Gemäldegalerie, Berlin, not the Dresden one. In fact the Berlin "Nationalgalerie" and "Staatliche Museen" are (post-reunification) now all the Gemäldegalerie there. Johnbod (talk) 20:04, 18 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

All good points. Feel free to revise. Remember (talk) 20:21, 18 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
I'll leave it to you - I try not get entangled in lists. Johnbod (talk) 20:28, 18 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
In fact I see the Berlin CDF's are now at the Alte Nationalgalerie. Johnbod (talk) 21:26, 19 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Are we sure that this[1] and this[2] are two different paintings? they look awfully similar to me, and the commons info gives the same date for each... Lithoderm (talk) 21:50, 20 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

They are the same painting...This is the Hermitage painting from 1821 Moonrise By The Sea :[3], close but different.....Modernist (talk) 21:56, 20 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
I switched them out, but the wmcommons version of that image is very gray. It was hit by the same guy who "brightened" Mondaufgang am Meer. Lithoderm (talk) 22:34, 20 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, it is grayed out like the other one was...but having it clarifies the confusion..Modernist (talk) 22:50, 20 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Another discrepancy: this[4] claims to be an oil painting, but it looks to me like a pen and watercolor drawing. Lithoderm (talk) 13:42, 21 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Indeed - "Yorck Project" descriptions are often out of date or inaccurate. It seems to be a study for this, which does look like an oil. Johnbod (talk) 13:53, 21 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Hmmm. I can't seem to find any decent pics online. This [5] is the best I can find. Lithoderm (talk) 14:02, 21 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
They do look alike [6]check these out...Modernist (talk) 14:05, 21 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
The first page is full of untrustworthy commercial sites, and the second is full of weather reports... Lithoderm (talk) 14:10, 21 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Anyone mind if I remove these? Ceoil (talk) 23:19, 20 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Nope, but you might want to consider adding the country afterwards just so people can easily determine where the paintings are without having to click onto a city they have never heard of. Remember (talk) 23:47, 20 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
They are nearly all in Germany, so I don't see it matters too much. Perhaps "Germany unless stated otherwise" could be added at the top. The gallery links are still chaotic. Johnbod (talk) 00:58, 21 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
I'd say say nothing. If the reader has never head of Dresden, thats not our problem. Ceoil (talk) 02:17, 21 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Fair enough, but how many people have heard of Schwerin before. I just think that adding a country to the cities will help make it more user-friendly. Remember (talk) 15:15, 21 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
If they're uncertain, they can always click on the wiki-link. We just have to make sure those are pointed to the right articles. Lithoderm (talk) 15:20, 21 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
That works too. I just think it is easier to state the country right after the city since that will convey the information quicker without having to go to another webpage, but to each his own. Remember (talk) 15:36, 21 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

See the gallery at the foot of the German Wikipedia article. If somebody with a commons account could transfer them over, this page would move a long way forward. As it is, its shaping up really well. Ceoil (talk) 21:20, 21 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

That reminds me, I was going to suggest that we add a column with the German titles. This is because I have myself had problems verifying which images correspond to which titles- while the English translations vary, the German titles are always the same. Lithoderm (talk) 00:14, 22 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
I think this would be a very good idea. Ceoil (talk) 00:25, 22 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
In fact, I had seen the additional images in the German gallery, but had refrained from adding them because although I could supply a literal translation, it wouldn't be the "canonical" translation. Something like using Wutrosinen("Angry Raisins") as the title of a certain Steinbeck novel... Lithoderm (talk) 01:23, 22 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

This is beginning to shape up..thanks for starting this article....Modernist (talk) 23:07, 21 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

The table at the German Wiki is impressive..see Ceoil's link above, wow...Modernist (talk) 23:18, 21 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
I agree, this is becoming a fantastic resource. Ceoil (talk) 23:20, 21 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the compliments! I'm glad to have helped. In general the arts seems to lack for good list articles. Hopefully, this can help change that trend. Remember (talk) 01:50, 22 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Paintings destroyed in the Glaspalast fire

edit

The german wikipedia gives this table of Friedrich paintings destroyed in the Glaspalast fire. If anyone can provide more information about them (at least the dates!), then they should probably included in the list. '

Winterlandschaft mit Kirchenruine (Öl)
Riesengebirgslandschaft (Öl)
Dame am Meeresstrand (Öl)
Hafen von Greifswald (Öl)
Augustusbrücke in Dresden (Öl)
Abendstunde (Öl)

Am Dominikanerkloster in Pirna (Öl)

More works to add

edit

We should add more works from Hermitage Olpl (talk) 02:19, 16 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Will do. I'm working on it now. Lithoderm 03:28, 16 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
Done, I think. Feel free to add any more yourself. Lithoderm 03:52, 16 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
My turn now. I am going to add a couple of works like [7] from [8] Olpl (talk) 13:14, 16 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
Um, the first one is already in the list, and so are both of the ones in the second link. Thanks for increasing the resolution of Auf dem Segler, though. Lithoderm 18:02, 16 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
Done [9] [10] 0151 (talk) 02:55, 17 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
Jeez. Those are huge... How are you finding these, exactly? I might have to look in to Bittorrent... Lithoderm 03:17, 17 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
Simple, they are in that .torrent. If you are on Windows use uTorrent. 0151 (talk) 03:23, 17 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
Remember that you must crop out those borders and frames if you want to qualify for PD-Art 0151 (talk) 03:25, 17 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Well, in the Tetschen Altar the frame is an integral part of the work, but for The Cathedral and Cross in the Mountains; yes, those frames could be cropped. By the way, does the MOMA have a torrent, and if it does, could you fetch a high resolution version of this for me? It's needed for an article... Lithoderm 03:34, 17 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

I could not find it in my archives. 0151 (talk) P.S. Torrent it is just a collection of files. Thing in itself.
Wait. Seems I can get it. Where should I upload it? 0151 (talk)
Upload it over File:Porte-Fenetre a Collioure 1914.jpg, if it is any higher resolution. Thank you in advance. Lithoderm 04:50, 17 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
No no no- what was I thinking? Those are two different works.... Just copy the license and description tags from the work I listed above, change them to the correct info, and upload it. Don't worry about accuracy; I can always fix the information. Thanks. Lithoderm 06:53, 17 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
There seems to be a problem with this picture, by the way. Lithoderm 06:56, 17 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
What's up with it? 0151 (talk) —Preceding undated comment was added at 08:05, 17 December 2008 (UTC).Reply
Oh wait, evidently nothing. That's odd, the last time I tried to zoom in on it, my browser said there was a problem with the file. I was using linux at that point, but now I'm on windows, so maybe that had something to do with it. Lithoderm 18:47, 17 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
I am on linux too and have no problems viewing big files like that in Firefox. 0151 05:19, 18 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
Eh, It was probably because I was trying to view it at the same time I was in the process of upgrading from Hardy Heron to Intrepid Ibex (I wish someone would pay me to come up with those names- "Pretentious Platypus!"- "Weary Wombat!"- I'm all set!) so the RAM was probably all allocated to the upgrade, that's all. Plus I have a ton of other problems with my linux box, but that's a matter for Ubuntu forums, not here. Were you going to upload the Matisse? If you're unsure of how to upload the file, email it to me at lithoderm@gmx.com and I'll upload it. The main thing is to upload it to wikipedia, rather than wikimedia commons. You just have to have over ten edits and have been registered for a few days, then go to Special:Upload. Copy and paste this code into the description box:

{{Information | Description = ''View of Notre Dame.'' (1914). Oil on canvas, 58 x 37 1/8" (147.3 x 94.3 cm). In the collection of the Museum of Modern Art. | Source = | Date = Painted in 1914 | Author = [[Henri Matisse]] | Permission = This painting by Henri Matisse is in the public domain in the United States because it was first published before 1923. {{PD-art-US}} {{Do not move to Commons}} | other_versions = }}

All you have to fill in is the source for the high-resolution file. Thanks in advance! Lithoderm 15:13, 18 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

I still can not upload anything to wikipedia because I am not "autoconfirmed" (10 edits needed). Please check your email for the image or get it here. 0151 05:19, 19 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
I can get enything else from MoMA website if you need it, just ask me. Also, shall we move to your or my talk pages to discuss this matter? 0151 05:25, 19 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
Yes, that would be best. I received the file- it is excellent, thank you very much. I see you've already uploaded it, so I corrected the tags. I'll contact you if I need anything more. Thanks again! Lithoderm 18:30, 19 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
Actually I found this script so you can do that all by yourself. BR 4649 03:08, 24 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
