New kind of list needed

I think the english wiki could use a new category of zoological list:

therefore i propose that LISTS OF ANIMALS SORTED BY GEOGRAPHICAL AREAS OF HABITAT be written!

for example, I was looking for a (as yet non-existent...) "LIST OF ANIMALS THAT INHABIT AREAS OF NORTHERN COLD CLIMATES"

(polar bear, snow fox, seals etc...)

I wouldn't mind taking up the job myself, if somebody can just direct to relevant books and sources and how that kind of thing should be constructed...

Question about Lists of animals

Hello SqueakBox: I did some minor fixes to Lists of animals and saw the recently added Lists of animals#Animals (by common name) and I'm not clear on how that list was selected or if it's really useful there. It might be a good place to put List of birds by common name, List of common fish names and others but an actual list with no clear criteria for inclusion doesn't seem to fit. What do you think? Perhaps List of animals by common name, good luck to anyone trying to sort that list by bird, fish etc. I found it in outline of zoology where it was an even worse fit. I am not though happy to see it deleted, somebody put a lot of work into it. I prefer lists that order by taxa and not by alphabetical order. ♫ SqueakBox talk contribs 18:45, 17 August 2015 (UTC)

That would be a long article, millions at least. I agree that someone put some work into it, but a list which includes both Basset Hound, a breed and bird, a class seems unhelpful. Would you be ok if I take it out?  SchreiberBike | ⌨  19:03, 17 August 2015 (UTC)

Added the above (common name) list to the talk page of List of animal names, of which it turns out it is a content fork of. Perhaps they can make use of some of the names there. The Transhumanist 21:33, 24 August 2015 (UTC)

Have weeded out the duplicates and have started to merge the Animals (by common name) list into List of animal names. Have also added an entry for the List of animal names on Lists of animals. The Transhumanist 09:39, 25 August 2015 (UTC)
