Congrats

edit

Awesome job. There is so little of this type of info online. Next task: the other 190 countries of the world. 142.205.213.42 (talk) 19:54, 30 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Well, nearly three years after your comment, we have made some progress, i guess. Regards. Rehman(+) 10:42, 14 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Page

edit

Do we really need this page? It is good information to have, but the Canadian Wind Energy Association keeps a more up to date and comprehensive list on their website at: http://www.canwea.ca/farms/wind-farms_e.php. I think, for people researching this topic, it should be either kept up to date, or a reference given on the main wind wiki page to the CANWEA site. Saurdigger (talk) 15:08, 13 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Renaming and cleanup

edit

Hello. I have renamed this page from List of wind farms in Canada to the current title. This will help the article gain more attention by readers and editors, and will increase the chances of it being expanded. I have also converted the article from this to this. The edit looks like a lot of entries were removed, which is true, as there were many duplicates (same entry entered twice) in the old version. Regards. Rehman(+) 03:52, 14 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Naming power stations in Canada

edit

Hello editors. Just want to know, what exactly is the structure for naming power stations in Canada? Because the list shows all stations named as xx generating station instead of xx power station.   Regards. Rehman(+) 10:42, 14 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Some companies use the term "generating station" (e.g., Ontario Power Generation) while others use "power station" (e.g. SaskPower). -- M@sk (talk) 01:31, 15 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
Hmm. So do you (or any other user, for that matter) think its a good move to rename the pages to "xx power station" format? Rehman(+) 01:37, 15 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Splitting nukes from fossil fuel power plants

edit

Hi. In the spirit of WP:BOLD, I've decided to split the nuclear plants from the fossil fuel ones, which seems more logical than non-renewable vs. various other types listed in the page (biomass, hydro, wind, etc...). Bouchecl (talk) 01:54, 22 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

OK, I'm done with the non-renewable plants. Comments and suggestions are always welcome. Bouchecl (talk) 15:12, 22 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

How comprehensive should the list be?

edit

I've spent the last two days working on this list, and I start wondering about the level of detail we should provide. I'm down to the last few wind turbines in Nova Scotia (16,9 MW) and it gets more complicated because many "projects" there feature a single (< 1 MW) unit. Should they be listed? Do we have some sort of guideline? Bouchecl (talk) 18:51, 23 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Generally, it's reasonable to list entries of 10MW or larger for wind, thats what I would do. But that depends on how much projects are in operation. If there are only a few below 10MW, then its better to reduce the values to 5MW, or vice versa, to 15MW, and so on. Hope this helps. Kind regards. Rehman(+) 13:50, 29 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Problem with the Hydro table

edit

I've encountered a slight problem when editing the hydropower table. It's getting on the longish side (>64K) and adding text to the structure created trouble at the bottom of the page with the reflist and the Power Stations box, so it might be the problem. Anyway, here's what I've temporarily removed:

After posting the segment of the table here, I must conclude the maximum lenght of the wikitable sortable structure is 64K. I'll cut the list into regional ones to avoid that pitfall. Bouchecl (talk) 18:59, 26 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Split

edit

I did some testing on a user page, and it seems there is some issue involving pages with very long tables and a bunch of templates. It means we need to split this page. I would suggest splitting it by province as they did in List of power stations in Australia. We could keep the largest 10-20 plants of each category and provide a summary of installed capacity by province on this page. Bouchecl (talk) 22:45, 26 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Don't worry. I expect it to be done in a few hours. I filled a spreadsheet with the data and I create the new lists semi-automatically. I will need proofreaders to check on the provincial pages, as soon as I'm done though! :) Bouchecl (talk) 04:19, 29 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

I'm basically ready to move ahead with the split. If there is no objection, I would do it tomorrow, August 29, 2010. Bouchecl (talk) 19:57, 28 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Done with the first part of the split

edit

I'm done with the first part of the split, which was to create provincial/territorial pages (except for Nunavut, which I plan to do at a later time, unless someone volunteers...). I plan to start working on cleaning up this page tonight. The new pages are listed in this box. Feel free to edit the new pages. Cheers! Bouchecl (talk) 17:24, 29 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Done. I plan to add a separate list of nuclear plants and wind famrs to the page, plus summary tables. Bouchecl (talk) 00:23, 30 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
Excellent job! Well done! Rehman(+) 04:17, 30 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Rank

edit

Is there a way to keep the rank column independent? That way we can add and remove table entries without having to redo the entire rank column. Ng.j (talk) 16:38, 18 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

GM Shrum capacity upgrade

edit

Work has been completed on GM Shrum GS units 6, 7, 8 and this should change the top 10 standings putting the BC power station ahead of La Grande-4. Before making the change though, wait until a published source mentions the new installed capacity. As of now, the most current official source provides numbers as of March 31, 2011. So if you have the source, make the switch (and add your source). If you don't have a source, please don't touch it. Regards. Bouchecl (talk) 00:12, 22 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Largest generating stations

edit

move the source of energy columns more to left, merge wind farms and add operational years.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 117.215.199.229 (talk) 20:28, 2 June 2016 (UTC)Reply
