Argentina

Shouldn't it be "France via Spain" instead of "Spain via France"? СЛУЖБА (talk) 21:07, 29 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, you're right. It may be confusing either way. Pristino (talk) 07:30, 5 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Italian surnames are mostly toponymic, whereas Spanish surnames are generally patronymic. This means that there are thousands of different Italian surnames, each one originated from a different place. In Spain, instead, almost everyone is González, Fernández, Pérez, Hernández, etc. So, it's no surprise that Spanish surnames make the top 100 of the ranking. However, if you look at a telephone directory in Argentina, most people have Italian surnames. Look at the newest football players in the Argentine national team, for example. Coach Lionel Scaloni (italian surname) has called Rulli, Gazzaniga, Battaglia, Cervi, Icardi, Lo Celso, Pezzella, Marchesin, De Paul, Simeone (10 Italian surnames), Martínez, Paredes, Pereyra, Acuña (4 Spanish surnames), Dybala (Polish), Foyth (Bielorrusian), Kannemann (German), Ascacíbar (French Basque). In no way Spanish surnames are a majority in Argentina. They come easily in second place after Italians, and ahead of German, French and British surnames. It's the lack of variety what makes Spanish surnames stand out. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2800:810:43F:8683:2191:E5AB:4CFA:EA5A (talk) 13:24, 17 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Yes, you're right. The main article is absolutely wrong when it states that "Spanish surnames far surpases those of Italian origin". Shouldn't it be corrected? I'm talking about Argentina only. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 181.47.58.192 (talk) 12:51, 24 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Montes is not a Japanese surname, it's Luso-Hispanic. Japanese surnames don't end in S's, they mainly end with vowels and N. 99.179.174.131 (talk) 01:18, 15 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
