Musical question

edit

Question: What was the song that played while bart is reenacting the intro to the show? I seem to remember it being a They Might Be Giants Song (or at least I think I heard them perform it).

The song you speak of is Jessica, by The Allman Brothers Band.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 131596 (talkcontribs)

Trivia

edit

Lobot removed my note (18:46, 12 Feb) regarding facial features. I won't put it back in yet, but I don't think it's nongermane that the charater voiced by Natalie Portman has a similar facial feature to the actress. None of the Simpsons characters have moles or beauty marks unless it's for a plot or character reason, and the mark on Portman's cheek is quite distinct -- so this could easily have been an in-joke somewhere in the production team.

The artists tend to be a little more detailed and realistic when it comes to animating guest stars. If however, it is an "in-joke" amongst the production team, find a source that meets the inclusion criteria and add it to the body of the article, see WP:WAF, WP:EPISODE, WP:AVTRIV, WP:V, and WP:OR. Cheers. L0b0t 21:47, 12 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
There appears to be a WikiProject to remove excess trivia, that Lobot is a member of. Personally, I thought that the point of Wikipedia was that it wasn't a printed encyclopedia, so length of the entry wasn't a problem. Contempoarary TV shows like The Simpsons, Family Guy, American Dad, and South Park are ALL about the trivia in-jokes. And I like to come to wikipedia to read about refences I might have missed. If every entry is going to be cleaned up, might as well not even have an entry for the episode. For what its worth, I re-entered my Mr. Burn's (not Roper-heh) entry. I think its a fine addition to the cannonical list of "breaking the forth wall". Someone who hates the simsons might back link and realize they like the Simpsons, as a practical example of why things like this should remain.69.37.78.35 16:49, 13 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
I would respectfully ask you to thoroughly read WP:WAF, WP:EPISODE, WP:AVTRIV, WP:V, and WP:OR. This has nothing to do with article size and everything to with citing sources and original research. For example, the bit about Monty mugging for the camera. You say it is a nod to Jack Benny, I would posit that given the situation (Smither's sexuality), the age of The Simpsons writting staff, and the age of the target demograhic of the show (and the FOX network in general) that it is more likely a nod to Norman Fell. Fell, in the role of Mr. Roper on Three's Company, used to mug for the camera in that exact manner when Jack Tripper's sexuality was mentioned. The point is, without a reliable source that says the writers intended either reference, it is contra our policies on original research and verifiability to insert either claim into the article. "Ogdenville and North Haverbrook were previously mentioned in "Marge vs. the Monorail". Im pretty sure Ogendville has been mentioned in several episodes. I know for sure it was mentioned in the one where Bart's the quarterback of the football team (can't remeber the name). 21:42, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

UK motorsports television shows

edit

Please stop adding trivia about shows that aren't The Simpsons. The fact that a song is used by 2 shows is not notable and has nothing whatsoever to do with the subject of this article. The article for the song might be a better place to put that tidbit. Cheers. L0b0t 02:42, 13 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

I'd disagree. There are some references to Topgear like Homer saying "floor it" and in both series the music is used in relation to cars. I've added the fact again, and if you choose to remove it, then please comment. Hauberg 18:39, 5 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

I have re-added. There is a very possible correlation between the two, and this episode was released when Top Gear was becoming popular in the United States. ```` —Preceding unsigned comment added by 220.236.137.186 (talk) 13:10, 1 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Lenny and Carl

edit

The article states “It was revealed in this episode that Lenny and Carl share the same mother.” Given that it was a very weak implication at best – all it really reveals is that Carl has siblings – I’m removing the statement. -Ahruman 15:31, 13 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Lenny says, "It's moving towards the flamable district", to which Carl responds, "That's where our mom lives!" I don't think there's anything implied in Carl's statement; our mom means the mother of both him and Lenny. I will grant you that Lenny and Carl's relationship is the next "Where's Springfield?" or "Is Smithers gay?" running gag, but based on this statement it's pretty clear what he meant. Granmpa Simpson Comment

edit

When grampa simpson at the beggining said "grampa out" was that in refrence to what Ryan Seacrest says all the bloody time on American Idol/On Air With R.S/E! News/AT 40.... "seacrest out"?

One would assume yes. -Emhilradim 03:27, 9 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Isn't this trivia good enough?

edit

I'd like to see two trivia points I added returned to the article:

  • Bart shows Lisa a prank where one can alter a Land O'Lakes butter package to make it appear as if the Native American mascot is exposing her boobs.
  • The episode references the Great Chicago Fire which is rumored to have been started by a cow kicking over a lantern. Here, Cletus's cow actually succeeds in preventing a fire, only to have it restarted by Cletus himself.

I think they were quite obvious and well-linked to other related wikipedia articles. I certainly feel these are more important than all the "this is the second time..." bullets, although I think those hold merit as well. Hoof Hearted 13:46, 13 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Speculation: then you may as well remove the Killian document item too (another item I added). I see the first as a cultural reference rather than a retelling of the joke (the link goes to the subsection that explains the prank). But hey, if you think the article is better without them, leave them out. Hoof Hearted 14:11, 13 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Lenny and Carl (2)

edit

I'm pretty sure that when the fire in springfield starts, lenny and carl say something like that "it's moving towards the flamable district, That's where our mother lives!" It's possible I misheard, but if that is what it said it adds to the mystery of lenny and carl's relationship.

Can anyone verify this? And if so put it in the article.

Please check the talk page for previous discussions about a topic and add new discussions at the bottom of the page. Please sign your comments by typing 4 tildes (~~~~) at the end. You are correct about the lines spoken by Lenny and Carl. This information was removed from the article by Ahruman - see the discussion section above. Hoof Hearted 12:51, 1 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Cultural Reference

edit

Isn't the title refering to Thomas Bergers "Little Big Man", about the white guy that becomes part of an Indian tribe? Or did I miss something about Little Big Horn in there? 77.253.241.65 (talk) 17:06, 29 March 2008 (UTC)stupidcowardReply
