list of LMI presidents

edit

Hi, I'm currently updating some articles related to the history of the Medical school. In trying to establish the notability of certain staff members for inclusion on a list, it was suggested - as many of them were presidents of the LMI - that it might be useful to include a list of past LMI presidents on the wiki page. I know wikis are due to be made/extended for some presidents which would again highlight their notability to warrant a wiki entry. If you would like I can make a table of the first presidents up until 1920 by referencing Thomas Bickerton's book (1936). And I've photographed the LMI boards in order to provide a full and upto date listEstherCole (talk) 22:59, 7 February 2017 (UTC) EstherCole (talk) 22:59, 7 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

@EstherCole: Is the president an biennual appointment (as hinted at in University of Liverpool School of Medicine#Notable staff members)? If so there could be 90 names on the list, which would be over-dominant in a short article like this. Also, a short appointment would reduce the prestige of the post and the notability it confers on its holders: it might amount to Buggins' turn among the Liverpool medical men. If there are a lot of names then I suggest creating a new list article: List of presidents of the Liverpool Medical Institution. It would also be good to add the data to Wikidata (which I haven't yet come to grips with). Verbcatcher (talk) 23:22, 7 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Verbcatcher: good advice having a separate page for LMI presidents as yes, they eventually become an annual appointment - but some very eminent doctors there, especially the latter decades. I will hopefully delete / add to the medical school staff list as I intend to use my research to find out more about the staff and alumni. Which should hopefully identify if they warrant a wiki entry and keep the number to less than 20. Many thanks.EstherCole (talk) 00:48, 8 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
@EstherCole: Please consider including birth and death years as well as the years in office. If you have enough pictures you could include them and maybe make a sortable table, as I did in in Archdruid#List of Archdruids of Wales. In that list a citation in the introductory sentence applies to the whole list, which I think is preferable to adding identical citations on each name. @Verbcatcher: nice table, yes I see! I may recommend this to the LMI as they have many portraits and I'd have to ask the necessary permissions. I may edit the medical staff list until I can work out who is the wiki definition of notable.EstherCole (talk) 12:48, 8 February 2017 (UTC)Reply
