John Haines
editI followed the See Also link to John Haines thinking I was going to find an unknown poet relevant to the Liverpool Poets, but was rather disappointed to find a "part-time writer of songs and comical stories", who although Liverpool-based, is not even a poet, and seems to have no link with the Liverpool Poets. I think this link will not be helpful to people reading this article, especially when there are a number of people seriously involved with the Liverpool Poets, such as Heather Holden and Mike Evans who don't as yet have any entry on them at all.
Canning Street
editIn 1967 several of the Liverpool 8 poets lived at no. 64 Canning Street. If memory serves these were Adrian Henri, Roger McGough and Mike Evans, the latter sharing the groundfloor flat with Mike Hart. They did much of their drinking at O'Conno/e/rs just round the corner from the "Phil". The Phil still stands but I think Connors has long disappeared. Everybody got to be somewhere! Liverpool Scene (band) and John Peel ...
editCurrently this sub-section says: "After Radio London closed down, Peel visited Liverpool and met the band", which implies this was the first occasion he had done so.
According to the John Peel 'gigography' (http://peel.wikia.com/wiki/Gigography_1967) on "23 June 67 he was at the UFO Club, 10.30 pm - Dawn" (he dj'd there at the time); "Liverpool Love Festival - a busload of Liverpool 8". Adrian Henri, The Scaffold, Brian Patten, Mike Evans, The Squares, The Trip, Andy Roberts, Graham Laydon. "Poetry and music of the Liverpool scene". Peel attended this event during his shore leave from Radio London. He mentions this on the Perfumed Garden of July 12, criticising the UFO audience for their lukewarm response to the performers."
Although not explicitly stated in that entry, he must have met the band then - the UFO Club was hardly Wembley Stadium! Not important, so I've not changed the entry as it is correct as it stands, but just thought it worth a mention. Brieflysentient (talk) 17:11, 27 October 2011 (UTC)
